Day 1 Information for students

Safety At Bridgwater College we want all students to feel, and be safe. This is called Safeguarding. If you have any worries about your safety or the safety of another young person, please tell a member of staff. Email StaySafe@bridgwater.ac.uk or ring (01278) 441247.

Fire If you hear or see the fire alarm, calmly leave the building via the nearest exit. If you’re in a class session, leave and stay with your member of staff. Fire refuges are available for those who can’t leave the building quickly (see maps for Bridgwater and Cannington centres). Safe assembly points outside are on the fire instructions displayed in each classroom (see an example so you know what to look for). If you think there might be a risk of fire or other danger, tell a member of staff quickly.

Restaurant Try out the different places to eat and drink (see details on the Restaurant site of Blackboard – look for the blue tab along the top). Please clear away after yourself. Be nice to the staff. Don’t hang around in the restaurants when you’ve finished, then there’s room for everyone.

Smoking & Vaping We haven’t banned smoking or vaping from the Bridgwater centre. However, we do need you to use one of the 2 smoking areas. They are located: Next to the rear gates of the College, clearly signposted, At the back of the car park of the Energy Skills Centre.

First Aid If you or another person is hurt or ill get a message to Reception and First Aid help will be called. You can get more health advice in D29 or from the College Health Promotions Advisor (Laura Watkins watkinsl@bridgwater.ac.uk ). Fill out and hand in your Medical form (it’s on the other side of the consent form).

Buses You need a bus pass to use the buses, they aren’t free. Keep your Bus Pass safe, don’t lose it or lend it. Re-placing it is very expensive. If you have a College pass you can only use it to travel to and from College during term time. Don’t mess around on the buses, everyone has the right to a good journey. Any problems, tell Student Support - please know your bus number. StudentSupport@bridgwater.ac.uk or call (01278) 441233.

IT New students logging on please use any computer and log on using your Student ID as the username and your date of birth in ddmmyy format (no spaces or backslashes) as the initial password. You will immediately be asked to change it. See the video on Blackboard, titled “Activating your account (on campus)”. There’s also guidance on achieving this offsite, Remote Desktop and more - Under the ‘IT Support’ tab on Blackboad, press the ‘Logging On’ button (or click here)

Student Charter The College is an organisation that values the rights and responsibilities of individuals. We aim to achieve success by promoting a hardworking, safe and friendly College. Please read the Charter carefully. This is renewed every year. You can visit the Student Info Hub to view the document, spot the poster version around the College. Tutors and all - please click here to read it.

Please speak to Student Support or a member of staff. Any worries? Money – Transport – Friendships - Being on the right course - Personal Safety – Anything else   Please speak to Student Support or a member of staff. We will always help.
