Appreciation and Practice of Chinese Folk Songs , Dances and Operas Lecturers: Zhang Xiaomei; Fu Haiyan; Luonan Required Teaching Hours: 32 contact hours  

Course Description:  Chinese folk songs, dances and operas has made a great contribution to Chinese traditional culture. This course consists of a series of lectures providing an introduction and interpretation of the art of the folk songs, dances and operas, exploring the Chinese living conditions and the nation's cultural psychology and character as well as examining how Chinese culture interacts with foreign culture. The course will also provide the opportunities for the students to practice singing and performing under the guidance of the teachers and some professionals, which will enable them benefit greatly from learning through practice flexibly.

Required Textbook: We are using texts, pictures, films and videos during the course. No textbook required. If necessary, we offer handouts. Requirements: Class participation and performance:50%; Test:50%.
