Presentation transcript:

The relationship between Australian and Aboriginal people. The Aborigines are the indigenous people, who live in the Australian Continent. Aboriginal means « first », they are like native Americans, the Indians. They live in reservations or in ranches in the Outback. Aboriginal people have been victims of discrimination and racism for a long time, despite the prime minister’s apologies, we’ll be able to see that the Aborigines are still victims in our days.

The stolen generations Indigenous children were taken away from their families from the very early days of the colony. On the frontier there were many instances of children who were kidnapped by white settlers who often became servants for the newcomers. On missions and reserves across the country children were often separated from their families. They slept in dormitories and had very limited contact with their parents. This system helped convert the children to Christianity by removing them from the cultural influence of their people. But the removal of Aboriginal children intensified at the end of the 19th century. There were a number of Aboriginal children being born of mixed race. Colonial authorities believed the children with training and education could be absorbed into the white population ridding them of the so-called ‘half caste’ problem.

austRalian culture Australia : a little corner of paradise. The role of sport in Australia. « Legal and moral rigor.

Aboriginal culture Painting, boomerang, didgeridoo. « Small minds ». Today, Aborigines are still not fully integrated into Australian society. They can be classified into three categories: - Those who have integrated themselves into society and now live in the West. - Those who are in reserves lost in the outback and who still live somewhat as formerly; They are increasingly scarce  - Those who live close to the cities, but who do not work, live on the street, and often suffer from problems of alcoholism. The condition of the Aborigines and the means to help them are still very complex and sensitive in Australia today.
