Modernizing physical science curriculum using lego Robotics Austin Varney, Cody West, Justin Ball and Brooke Fields Belfry High School, Belfry, KY 41514
About EV3 - The robot consists of - 1 EV3 Programmable Brick - 2 Large Motors - 1 Medium Motor - 1 Touch Sensor - 1 Color Sensor - 1 Ultrasonic Sensor - 1 Remote Control
Utility of Each Sensor The purpose of the robot is to trace the line. Then pick up the block, Turn around and trace the line going back, then it’ll hit the wall with it’s touch sensor and stop. Color Sensors - picks up the intensity of the light that is being traced. Ultrasonic Sensors - it picks up anything that is in front of the robot by so many centimeters. Touch Sensors - When it touches an object, it’ll stop.
Final robot built using all the components mentioned
Task for the Robot
To make the robot to work
Data Logging
How it was different from our regular classroom Using the EV3 robot one learns through building blocks, writing codes, perseverance and repetition. In regular classroom one learns the basic concepts from notes, lectures and direct hands on activities. This is more enterprising and very interesting to achieve a task. Once a result is achieved it is very satisfying. In a regular classroom one does work through research to find the answers and do logical math sometimes to do a scientific equations
