Transfer Admissions Admissions & Records

Updates/Changes since Fall 2016 admission cycle Alternate Majors Students should be very mindful of what major they select as well as what they indicate as their alternate major GPA first, then Golden 4/60 unit review Students will need to meet the minimum GPA requirement for fall 2017 admission with coursework through fall 2016. If student meets the minimum GPA, we will proceed to look for Golden 4 and 60 transferable unit requirement. If a student is initially denied admission and their grades at the end of their ‘in progress’ semester (spring 2017 for fall 2017 admission) takes them over the minimum GPA, they will still need to reapply for a future application cycle because they will not be considered for admission. Auto email for transcripts Applicants will receive an automatic email when we have logged in their transcripts as a confirmation that we received them

Spring 2017 admissions timeline August 1-31st – Application filing period Friday, September 16th – Document deadline – FIRM deadline October 1 - November 30th – Accept/Decline period October 31st – ADT Verifications Due (if applicable) Preferred method = ADT eVerify website Will accept hard copy form from community colleges (mail, fax, etc.) November – Transfer evaluations for admitted students who accepted their admission and registered for Dog Days December 2 and 9 – Mandatory Dog Days sessions (choose one) Late December & Early January – receive final official transcripts from admitted students

Local Admissions Area * Allan Hancock College Clovis Community College College of the Sequoias Fresno City College Hartnell College Merced College Modesto Junior College Porterville College Reedley College West Hills College - Coalinga West Hills College - Lemoore * effective fall 2017 application review cycle What does it mean to be considered a local area student? Upper division transfer applicants with the majority of their units from one or more of the schools belonging to our local admissions area will be considered local Transfer applicants with majority of units outside the local admissions area will be considered on a space available basis if they meet all the admission requirements NOTE – Completing an ADT does not override the impaction requirements for student, regardless of local or non-local.

Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) Verify online! Notification in Student Center that record will be updated when final transcript showing AS/AA-T is received Verification from community college for ADT in a similar major to what student applied to will provide a .1 GPA bump for admission purposes to help meet impaction guidelines REDIRECTION – Students with similar majors and who do not meet impaction requirements will be redirected to the two campuses of their choice (based on CSU mentor application) Visit the Undergraduate Student Recruitment Office for a list of similar majors http://fresnostate.edu/studentaffairs/recruitment/transfers/index.html

Transfer Admissions Electronic Communications Acknowledgement - sent within a few days of the application being downloaded by our campus. Provides instructions for students to create their Fresno State email account and check their Student Center Document reminder – sent to students with incomplete files reminding them that documents are still needed Withdrawn – sent to students whose applications do not reflect receipt of a postmarked transcripts(s) by the document deadline. Also includes not paying the $55 application fee

Reminders Consider ALL coursework when pre-advising, including AP work and the credit they will get here 70 unit community college maximum toward earned units for degree. Units taken after the 70 still count toward GPA and will clear content for degree Transfer GPA = means ALL transferable coursework Consider repeats of ‘D’ grades when counting a student’s units. Units cannot be counted more than once so be sure to “remove” the units from calculations for earned units. Still count in GPA If student has attended more than one non-local institution, group those units together. Same applies to attending more than one local college. Do not assume a student’s college work from another college does not need to be reported. ALL colleges, whether transferable courses or not, need to be reported on application.

What we noticed when reviewing applications Business holds for community college transcripts led to withdrawn students for not meeting the document deadline Encourage students to monitor their request at the sending institution Processing Time of the community college after ordering their transcripts Students should plan to allow ample time when ordering transcripts because ‘ordering’ before the deadline does not constitute meeting the deadline. Transcripts need to be postmarked by the deadline Sending transcripts too early and disregarding the reminder email Encourage students to review their Student Center under their ‘Univ Application Status’ where they will be able to see the dates of Not reporting a college on an application because it was assumed the courses were not needed for admission Students are still expected to report an institution on their application even if the courses are not transferable or if credit wasn’t earned

Questions from conference registration Academically disqualified previous Fresno State students Q. When a student is on disqualification from CSUF and have to repeat some of their GE courses, will CSUF accept the repeated GE courses, from a community college or should we have the student take other classes to improve GPA? We will accept the repeated GE courses for credit toward any degree requirements that it meets, but not as a grade substitution/forgiveness for their initial attempt at Fresno State. Therefore, both attempts of the course will affect their GPA. If possible, I would recommend they wait to repeat those courses at Fresno State so they could qualify for a grade substitution of the course (assuming they have units available in their Grade Substitution ‘buckets’ on our campus). SOC 1B from SCCCD Does that meet the Critical Thinking requirement in Area A3? Yes, as long as the student took the course when it was equivalent to Fresno State’s SOC 3 since SOC 3 on our campus clears the Critical Thinking requirement. Equivalency is based on when the student took a course and not their catalog year. EOP program and application process Please visit the EOP table for more information and questions Visit the EOP website - http://www.fresnostate.edu/studentaffairs/eop/prospective-students/apply.html Nursing program and application. How to prepare students? - possibly discussed later during the Nursing updates section of the agenda Transfer Admissions Process - discussed throughout the presentation

Questions from conference registration (cont). Associate Degree for Transfer questions students switching majors once at Fresno State Q. Information about switching majors (Example: AD-T Sociology, switch to Social Work when they get to Fresno State)with the same prerequisites as other programs. A. Any change to a student’s program (adding a major, changing options within the same major, adding a minor, changing a major) will mean the ‘60 unit contract’ is void. A student must earn (or be verified to earn during the application cycle) the same ADT major as to what they applied to at Fresno State and remain in that degree program without any changes to ensure the degree completion in 60 unit contract is met. When students graduate with an AD-T but do not have all the major course requirements complete, how will their last two years be planned out so they will graduate in 60 units? Example a Business ADT where the student is missing the DS 71 or DS 73. How will this also look if they are missing the POLISCI-2 and HIST 11 and 12? The student will need to work closely with the major department to determine how the 60 unit graduation requirement will be met. Students should plan to complete the equivalent of PLSI 2 at your campus if at all possible because we cannot waive a Title 5 degree requirement and the student will be required to complete it. HIST 11 or 12 is required for a student’s Title 5 degree requirement as well. ADT in Business, student will most likely still need to take the DS 71 or 73, which ever one was not taken for the ADT, here in preparation for their upper division courses. Please note the TMC provides students the opportunity to complete DS 71 and 73 as part of the ADT degree and they should take both of them, assuming your campus offers the equivalent to each of those courses. For students that are completing an ADT, should they also refer to assist.org for major pre-requisites? At times students are set with the minimal 60 units of an ADT; However, I wonder when to discern if to also recommend major pre-requisites from assist.org? This at times will hold the student back about one extra semester... Ideally a student has completed a significant number (if not all) of their lower division major preparation courses available to them if they have earned the ADT degree because of how the Transfer Model Curriculum is designed to incorporate the lower division major preparation courses.
