Entry Requirements An honours Bachelors degree (National Framework of Qualifications Level 8) Minimum grade C3 (higher level) in Leaving Cert Irish Minimum grade D3 (ordinary or higher level) in Leaving Cert Mathematics Minimum grade C3 (ordinary level) or grade D3 (higher level) in Leaving Cert English

Alternatives to Leaving Cert Irish The following will also satisfy the minimum Irish language requirement: Diploma in Arts (Applied Irish) from University College Cork Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge from NUI Galway Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach from University College Dublin Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge from NUI Maynooth Diploma in Irish from the University of Ulster

Alternatives to Leaving Cert Irish Cont’d .. The following will also satisfy the minimum Irish language requirement: Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge (An Ghaeilge sa Saol Comhaimseartha) of Aonad na Gaeilge from the University of Limerick Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG) Leibhéal B2 (Meánleibhéal 2) A pass in a first year primary degree examination in Irish (National Framework of Qualifications Level 8) Minimum grade C in the NUI matriculation exam (pre 1992)

The Interview Interviews take place in Dublin, Monday – Friday All applicants meeting the minimum requirements are called for interview 10-minute interview as Gaeilge (applicant can choose whether to do Gaeilge part first or second) A 20-minute general interview in English More detailed information is available on the website

The Interview Candidates are assessed in the following areas: Communication skills/ demonstrate your ability to work on a team/ your ability to have empathy with people/ IT skills and knowledge Preparation/presentation skills (includes your personal statement and your academic or character reference) Organisational and planning skills Ability to be self-directed and resourceful Ability to be reflective and evaluative Gaeilge

Course Structure Online Elements: On demand online lectures and self study Online webinars/tutorials: Approximately 3 hours per week (evenings) Tutor moderated online discussion forums Online Library Approx 45% of the programme

Course Structure Onsite Elements: Orientation day (one day in Dublin) Onsite workshops (usually on Saturdays): Conference Days in a central location and Regional group on sites/5 day study week Two 2- week compulsory Gaeltacht residential blocks (currently Donegal, Galway, Kerry) School Placement blocks; these will include periods of observation outside of whole compact blocks. Main factor to consider is the final 10 week school placement block Final written Gaeilge examination (in Dublin) Approx. 55% of course is onsite

Please note: This is a flexible course but a course which requires significant time commitment (approx. 45% of course is delivered online).

School Experience and School Placement Three blocks of school placement in a minimum of 3 different schools Blocks 1 and 2 are within a module that includes Research Methods Block 3 is Advanced School placement and includes carrying out a Curriculum Investigation that will be written up as a dissertation/mini-thesis In each block students are graded on both their uploaded planning documents and face-to-face school visits Support visits (ungraded) for students deemed to struggle

Assessment Each module is separately assessed: Portfolio assessment Students must pass School placement independently (pass by compensation does not apply) Capstone Module Oral and written examination for Gaeilge
