Features of the SACE Students earn credits for completed subjects: One semester is worth 10 credits Students must complete courses adding up to at least 200 credits, mostly over two or three years Students need to gain a C grade or higher for compulsory subjects to gain the SACE A - E grades in every subject

The Core Theory of Knowledge Extended Essay Creativity, Activity and Service

What is TOK? TOK = Theory of Knowledge An opportunity to reflect philosophically on the diversity of knowledge and the way in which individuals learn. You develop higher order critical thinking strategies and reflect on “How do we know something is true?” Assessed with an essay and an oral presentation.

What is EE? EE = Extended Essay A 4000 word essay allowing students the opportunity to investigate a topic of special interest. It familiarises students with independent research and writing skills. Choose a topic from subjects of interest.

What is CAS? CAS = Creativity, Activity and Service A range of activities allowing students to share their special talents, develop as compassionate citizens and appreciate a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Goal oriented, reflective, participation & organisation. Under guidance of a supervisor. Compulsory completion.

Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) 3 Higher Level (HL) subjects – 240 hours 3 Standard Level (SL) subjects – 150 hours HL subjects provide more depth and breadth

Assessment in the IBDP Written examinations at the end of the 2 years (Often a series of shorter papers) Internal Assessment – These tasks are marked by the teacher and are subject to external moderation External Assessment – marked by IBDP examiners Assessment is criterion based and not comparative to other students

A score out of 45 All 6 subjects are scored out of 7 Up to 3 extra points from TOK and EE A total score out of 45 (In 2015, scores of 43, 44 and 45 resulted in ATAR of 99.95) The Diploma is awarded to students who achieve a minimum of 24 points subject to a number of completion conditions.

What next? Web based Subject Selection Survey Forms due in Term 3 ‘Best fit’ model is used to construct the timetable for all students. Final option choices for each student will depend on fitting these subject ‘lines’. Options run dependent on class sizes and overall viability.
