Licensure Programs in Inclusive Early Childhood and Elementary Education

100+ years of teacher education

So you want to be a teacher? Why? What age do you want to teach? What subjects do you want to teach? Do you want to teach your whole career? Where do you want to teach? These are questions that your student needs to answer as he/she decides what licensure program to pursue

Initial Licensure programs at JMU Birth- 3rd Grade Inclusive Early Childhood Education – 5 year PreK-6th Elementary – 5 year 6-8 Middle School – 5 yr 6-12 Secondary – 5 yr Special Education K-12 and ECED – 5 yr Art – 4 yr Music – 4 yr Physical and Health Education – 5 yr These are the initial licensure programs that we offer at JMU. The programs I represent are five year programs – a BS degree in IDLS and a MAT summer, fall, spring

The Program of Study General Education – 43 hrs Major in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies 15 more core hrs 21 hrs in concentration (Humanities & Social Sciences or Math, Science, & Technology Licensure program 48 hrs IECE + 30 hrs at graduate level 33 hrs ELED + 31 hrs at graduate level

Elementary Education Pre-professional coursework Undergraduate Note: Starting fall 2015, ELED students need to pass EXED 200 prior to taking their 400 level ELED courses.
