Presentation transcript:

This is the interface for the Reflect version of the PebblePad system which is being made available by the IfL to its members. Colleagues can choose to use Reflect for recording their CPD and wider learning experiences. From the main interface users can create new records; view existing records; change display and other settings and upload files (documents, image, video or sound files). Items stored within Reflect remain private unless selectively shared with others such as peers; mentors or managers. CPD Activity records can be quickly linked to an annual CPD record which can be easily ‘published’ to the IfL.

There are a number of simple wizards to help structure entries There are a number of simple wizards to help structure entries. The scaffolding is intended to be supportive but not restrictive – entry fields can be skipped and/or additional information added as notes or attached files. All of the fields have short hints which provide further guidance; these link directly to online help so users should always be able to find support in writing their records or using the system. Navigation through the records is by the page numbers and arrows at the bottom of the pad. Page 2 of this record contains three entry fields which are revealed by clicking on the field headings. The toolbar at the top of the pad includes icons for cutting, copying and pasting as well as spell checking and saving.

Over time, as more records are created or files uploaded the asset store starts to fill with records. Clicking on the View button opens the store and records can be selected from the list. Reflect includes very simple tools to help users organise and find their assets. Selecting a record from the store opens the overview pad on the right. This provides information about the selected record (if it is shared, linked, reviewed etc.) and includes tools to view, edit, send, copy etc. Whilst Reflect has a default look and feel users can personalise their account to reflect their own preferences. Background images, colours, fonts and other changes can be made.

The records made in Reflect remain private unless the user chooses to share them with others. When records (or assets) are shared others can be given permission to view, comment, copy or collaborate. The share can be time-limited or rescinded at any time. Records can have other assets attached to them, in this example a scanned certificate as evidence; they can be printed or saved to a word-processor. When assets are shared with others and comments are added e.g. for mentoring or peer-review, the comments are displayed at the bottom of the record and take the form of a ‘conversation’.

This is an example of how the CPD Record might look This is an example of how the CPD Record might look. Entries in Reflect can be set to automatically populate the CPD Record. Other information will come directly from the user’s personal information either within Reflect or the IfL database. During the year the CPD Record will include more entries and the number of hours will automatically update (relative to the user’s FTE). When the user chooses to submit their CPD Record to the IfL they can do so quickly and easily by clicking send to IfL The user’s CPD Record will automatically update the IfL database.

In addition to providing tools to directly support the recording of, and reflection on, CPD; Reflect provides IfL members with easy to use tools for much wider use. Multiple ePortfolios can be quickly and easily created for a range of purposes including appraisal, accreditation, application and advancement – or just for fun! The system is provided for the individual member to use however they choose. Reflect also includes a blogging tool – blogs take about 30 seconds to create, and are simple to maintain.
