Thesis Statement Many are affected by the mental disorder autism, it affects 2-6 out of 1000 children, making their lives harder to live.
Important, interesting facts and/or conclusions Autism is a general term used to describe brain disorders known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). Many refer to the PDD group as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Doctors call this group of disabilities or disorders autism because it involves many with brain disorders. It is easier to call this group of people “autistic” then each individual by the specific type of autism they have. Five to one ratio for boy to girl that have it
What did I do? I spent time helping and watching after a student with autism. I also researched many different facts about autistic ones and how they are different in their thinking from us. I located an autistic foundation which I am going to donate money to.
How? When? I helped the autistic student do a variety of things from helping read and reach AR goal, do homework, chores, personal hygiene(comb hair, brush teeth), and fun activities(games she like to play). We did these things after school for a three day period.
People that helped me Mr. Smith helped me to get a better understanding of APA format and helped me to see that my paper was in MLA and that I needed to correct this mistake. Mrs. Miller helped to edit and revise my paper with peer conferences and proof reading and also helped to keep me on the scheduled dead lines that I had to meet.
Connection between the paper and product My paper tell about how the autistic are misunderstood sometimes. By spending time with an autistic person it helped me to understand more then I did before. We think they cant do much, but there are things that they can actually do way better then we can. And now I see that from this experience.
Successes and challenges of GP Writing the paper Getting my brochure done Successes I was able to meet dead lines I have a better understanding of autism then I had before begin this GP project
Future applications/plans I plan to keep volunteer more with autistic groups or persons I also plan to keep donating money
Is this the path I want to take for my career? Yes, it is a step in the right direction because I want to be a doctor and these experience showed me how it will be to help others.
