SPECTRA PRECISION SP60 GNSS RECEIVER Technical Training

Introducing the SP60 GNSS Receiver New

Versatile and scalable L1 GPS only post-processing solution UHF base & rover system Long Range Bluetooth base & rover Network RTK rover L-band RTX rover Scalable to any type of surveying job Flexibility to scale the platform for current needs while providing future-proof hardware and firmware upgrades to adapt the SP60 to more complex survey jobs SP60 is designed to replace the following Spectra Precision receivers: ProMark 120, ProMark 220, ProMark 700, ProMark 800. It can be delivered with basic L1 GPS configuration and can be fully scaled up the GNSS L1 and L2 functionalities. SP60 is designed to be used for every-day jobs.

GNSS Specification Unique 6G GNSS-centric technology Exclusive Z-Blade processing technology Spectra Precision 240-channel 6G ASIC 6 GNSS systems: GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, SBAS No dependency on the GPS signals Availability in very difficult environments Operation RTK network rover RTK UHF Base and Rover RTK Long Range Bluetooth Base and Rover Central Cloud Corrections (CCC) NTRIP / Direct IP Post-processing RTX ASIC – Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) - customized for a particular use, rather than intended for general-purpose use. Exclusive Z-Blade processing technology running on a next generation Spectra Precision 240-channel 6G ASIC fully utilizes all 6 GNSS systems: GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS and SBAS. The unique GNSS-centric capability optimally combines GNSS signals without dependency on any specific GNSS system; allowing operations in GLONASS-only or BeiDou-only mode if needed. Important: RTCM 3.2 is the first standardized format which allows delivery of the corrections for more than just GPS+GLONASS. All the previous versions of RTCM like 2.3 and 3.0/3.1 were able only to deliver the corrections of 2 constellation. RTCM 3.2 is capable of delivering the information for more constellations. SP80 was the first receiver in the industry which provided that functionality. SBAS in RTK?: When speaking about Fixed RTK, one is usually interested in time needed to fix carrier ambiguity and achieve cm level solution insuring at the same time preset reliability. L1 RTK solution allows using SBAS measurements in RTK process, thus making it a true GNSS technology. SBAS gives extra GPS-like measurements, which improve Satellite geometry and allow achieving cm level accuracy faster compared to GPS only case. The GPS+SBAS RTK technique is similar to GPS+GLONAS L1 RTK technique. From the point of L1 RTK performance, two extra SBAS satellites do the same job as three extra GLONASS s satellites. The ‘power’ of L1 GPS+SBAS RTK and L1 GPS+GLONASS RTK is approximately the same. RTK with Long-Range Bluetooth: Unique technology in the Trimble and competition world. Only particular market player can use alike solutions.

Real Time Communication Mini USB Bluetooth Optional TRx UHF radio (XDL radio) RS232 port (115 200 bauds, no RTS/CTS) Port A External RS232 port (115 200bds) Port B USB serial port Port C Bluetooth SPP Port D Internal UHF radio (38200 bds) Port M Internal Memory Port P TCP/IP port (client) Port Q External data output can be configured using the serial commands and Survey Pro Terminal Windo to provide for example the NMEA messages output for the 3rd party applications.

Long Range Bluetooth High power Bluetooth link (100 mW instead of 1 mW) Radio range of a few hundred meters Medium size site survey base and rover solution Very efficient way to quickly setup a base-rover solution No extra radio, no extra batteries, no license Lower power consumption Easy set up: no UHF settings and programming There are 2 Bluetooth ports in the Sp60 receiver. One of them is used to establish the communitarian with a Data Collector and the other is used to directly connect base and rover receiver. Data collector does not take and part in between the connection of base and rover. This is a direct base and rover Bluetooth modems connection.

In-the-rod UHF Antenna Design Optional UHF module Same HW module as for SP80 UHF antenna mounted inside the pole UHF antenna protection Extends the radio range and performance Fiberglass range pole Enhanced performance and productivity It is important to indicate that the Inside-the-rod UHF mounting system is a Spectra Precision patented, unique solution. The UHF antenna is full protected against any external damages. (Sales point)

Anti-Theft Protection Anti-theft technology Protection for SP60 base installed in remote or public places Locks the receiver to a specific location Start-Up protection Locks the receiver until the password is entered Validity period Locks the receiver after a specified period of time Helps to protect from being stolen Secures your investment and could lower insurance cost All mentioned here technologies Survey Pro configuration will be explained in the following slides.

Anti-Theft Technology (continued) What happens when Anti-Theft is activated? Last known position is stored in the memory Alert is issued if: receiver has unexpectedly been unable to deliver a valid position for the last 20 seconds whenever the protected receiver computes a valid position that is distant by more than 100 meters What will happen when a theft is detected? Buzzer will emit sounds All output messages will be stopped (the protected base receiver will no longer generate and transmit corrections, or any other NMEA or raw data messages). The power button of the protected receiver will be made inactive, which means no one can: Reset the receiver Upgrade the receiver It is recommended to deactivate Anti-Theft when moving base between locations

Startup PROTECTION with Survey Pro Startup Protection: Enable when enabled after the receiver will be powered- up again its’ functionality will be extremely limited, mainly to establish the Bluetooth connection to the Data Collector Popup message will appear each time survey base will start

Startup PROTECTION with Survey Pro After receiver power up and establishing a Bluetooth connection with the data collector a following window is displayed. It is possible to deactivate the start-up protection in this way

Validity Period How to deactivate? How does it work? How to activate? Validity period (0 to 365 days) is designed to let users work with the receiver in a predefined configuration and for a limited period of time. After the validity Period, the end user cannot use the receiver anymore How to activate? Send the following command using Terminal Window in SurveyPro $PASHS,VLP,mypassword,X with 0 < X < 365 How to deactivate? Send the following command $PASHS,VLP,mypassword,0 During the Validity Period, it’s not possible to upgrade the FW and do a « Reset to factory » settings…

UHF TRx radio Installation Pacific Crest XDL micro radio Can be used as TX (0.5 or 2 Watts) or RX Compatible with Ulink radio (Ulink protocol) How to install the radio Connected to the SP60 port D @ 38400 bauds No change in the antenna ARP for both configurations

UHF TRx radio Installation (continued) Screw the UHF whip antenna onto the coaxial connector of the UHF module. Screw the top rod onto the threaded part of the UHF module. Mount the receiver + top rod to the range pole In case of external antenna, insert the antenna cable into the slot of the top rod.

UHF Antenna Performance Typical radiation pattern of Smart Antenna with the UHF antenna located offset to the side of the plumb pole. UHF Base Antenna Transmitter UHF Rover Antenna Receiver Carbon fiber or aluminum pole Good signal reception when line of sight is maintained in between UHF base and rover antennas. Real degradation of the signal can be seen when the carbon fiber pole is in the line of sight of the base and rover UHF. The radiated pattern is asymmetric and depends on the receiver UHF orientation.

UHF Antenna Performance (continued) SP60’s Inside-the-Rod UHF antenna radiation pattern UHF Base Antenna Transmitter SP60 UHF Antenna Fiberglass pole of SP60 The radiation pattern does not suffer from any directional issues. The Rx level is almost completely flat regardless of orientation to the UHF Base Antenna. Antenna mounted inside the rod is protected against damage.
