Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa Japan’s initiatives: Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa In the opening speech of PM of Japan for TICAD VI on 27 Aug., 2016 I will also mention that we will launch the Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa, or “IFNA.” With nutrition being the very foundation of health, this is a measure we will advance jointly with NEPAD. Nutrition    4.1 Enhance nutritional status in African countries through multi-stakeholder and multi-sector approaches, focusing on better data, by promoting the Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa (IFNA).  3

JICA’s Strategies for Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Based upon Japan’s experiences of UHC and Japan’s experiences working with developing countries, 1) Contributing for UHC (Universal health Coverage) and SDGs Equity, Protection and Empowerment of people 2) Promotion of CoC (Continuum of Care) of MNCH Reduction of Neonatal Mortality and Maternal Mortality Connecting care at the community and at the health facility 3) Multi-sector approach 4 ) Learning and sharing the knowledge and networking at global level

Nutrition Promotion is a National Movement in Japan

PPP with Ajinomoto Co., Inc , USAID and JICA (Ghana) “Nutrient Enriched Food Business”(2011-2014) This business model aims to develop and establish a local distribution network of nutrient enriched food in Ghana for children during the weaning period. On May 30, 2012, Ajinomoto Co., Inc., the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and JICA signed a memorandum of understanding, confirming collaborative efforts to increase the nutritional well-being of children during the weaning period. Ajinomoto is working in partnership not only with USAID and JICA, but also with Ghana Health Service, Ghana University, GAIN, Plan Japan and Care International. 14
