Famous Pharaohs The King was not only the most powerful and important man in Egypt. He was thought to be a god. He was known as the pharaoh. The Queen of Egypt could also be seen as a goddess but was usually given the title of Great Royal Wife .Only rarely did women rule Egypt on their own. Pharaohs are buried in big pyramids

Cleopatra In 47 BC Cleopatra and Caesar had a baby called Caesarion. Cleopatra followed Caesar back to Rome, but after his assassination in 44BC she returned to Egypt. Cleopatra vii was the last ruler of Egypt. She is celebrated by her beauty and her love for the Roman warlords Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Cleopatra was born in 69 BC. She was a beautiful intelligent woman and she was a Politician who brought prosperity and peace to a country that was bankrupt and split by civil war. She married her brother Ptolemy which was Egyptian tradition.

The River Nile The Nile River is the reason that ancient Egyptians had business. The surrounding areas of Egypt are deserts and the Nile River brought water and rich soil that could be used to fertilize and grow crops. The Nile River is considered to be the longest river in the world at 6,953km and flows in the majority of northeastern Africa. Pharaohs had beautiful fancy ships built for themselves to travel up and down the Nile for pleasure and relaxation. The Nile River supplied Egypt with a way to be rich. And finally the Ancient Egyptians based their calendar on the three cycles of the Nile River. Each season was four months, each month was thirty days.

Egyptian Writing The ancient Egyptian’s thought it was important to write down information about religion and important events. So they invented scripts. There are three main Egyptian scripts (which means writing), Hieroglyphics or ‘Sacred Writing’. The most famous script type of writing is hieroglyphics, which uses pictures as writing symbols. Hieroglyphics were carved or painted on stone monuments, tombs where the dead were buried, and temples where the gods were worshipped. Hieroglyphics were carved or painted by the priests and scribes. At first, Egyptian hieroglyphics were simply pictures. They showed simple things, such as the sun, plants, parts of the body and animals. Later the hieroglyphics came to mean more. A symbol of legs not only meant legs but walking too. An arm not only meant an arm but meant strength too. This way of writing could not say everything so some symbols were chosen to represent sounds

Egyptian Facts Over 130 pyramids have been discovered in Egypt 2. The pyramid of Khufu at Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid. This incredible structure weighs as much as 16 Empire State Buildings. 3. The Egyptian’s believed make-up had magical healing powers. 4. The Egyptian’s also wore make-up to protect themselves from the sun. 5. Unwrapped, the bandages of an ancient Egyptian mummy could stretch for 1.6km. Yikes! 6. The Egyptian alphabet contained more than 700 hieroglyphs 7. It’s thought that most families kept a cat as a pet, which they believed would bring the household good luck! 8. The Egyptian’s loved board games. A game called ‘Senet’ was played for over 2000 years 9. The ancient Egyptian’s invented lots of things we still use today, such as paper, pens, and believe it or not toothpaste, locks and keys.

Egyptian Pyramids The ancient Egyptians are famous for the pyramids. The pyramids were built as the burial places of the Egyptians Kings from before the start of the old kingdom until the end of the middle kingdom.

Pyramids continued The pyramids that we see today continue to be wonders of the world. They were built thousands of years ago yet still stand today. There are still over eighty pyramids in Egypt today. They’re all more than three thousand years old.

Pyramids continued The architecture of these pyramids were very skilled in mathematics, in technical drawing and in knowledge of the position of the sun and stars. The pyramids were carefully designed to be in a straight line with, for example, a certain star constellation at a certain time of year of sunrise of a particular day.

Pyramids continued The most famous of all the pyramids are the Great Pyramids of Giza. The Great Pyramid was built in 2528 BC. It was built for the King Khufu. It is more than 4500 years old. It is older than the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Pyramids continued It was the tallest building in the world for more than four thousands years. It was built from over two million huge block of limestone. It was covered with great, smooth slabs of limestone but they were later removed to build the city of Cairo.

Toys and games The winner would be the first to move his snakes body to the middle. The stone balls are sometimes carved with the names of some of Egypt’s earliest pharaohs. Even as children the ancient Egyptians enjoyed life. Some of the games they played are still loved by children today ,such as ‘Khuzza lawizza,’ or leapfrog, and tug of war. Toy Mouse . A wooden mouse that had a twine fitted to it , which could pull to make the tail go up and down. The Game of snake. One of the earliest board games discovered in Egypt was called ‘ snake’ because the stone board represented a serpent coiled with it’s head in the centre.
