World top 10 university 9th 3rd 5th 5th 6th 8th 1st in World in Europe 2016–17 3rd in Europe 2016–17 5th in the UK 2017 5th in the UK 2018 6th in the UK 2018 8th in World 2016–17 1st in London 2017 We are consistently ranked in the top 10 in the both UK and global league tables. Each league table uses different measures to rank institutions, which is why the list of top performers often varies. Imperial consistently appears in the top 10 so however you test us – teaching, research, career prospects, entry standards – we’re consistently amongst the top performers. League rankings shouldn’t be the only criteria on which you base your decision about where to study. Other important factors to consider include location, course content and, in the competitive job market, graduate prospects. A brief guide to Postgraduate Study

Representing over 100 years of history Only UK university to focus entirely on Science, Engineering, Medicine and Business. 16,882 COURSES WORLD-LEADING STAFF full and part-time students (2015–16) 100+ 73 Taught Postgraduate courses Fellows of the Royal Society 9,320 84 undergraduates Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering 6.3:1 85 7,562 Average ratio of postgraduate applications to admissions Fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences postgraduates Key messages: Imperial is a specialist institution. Lots of like-minded people and specialist facilities here. With so many closely related subjects there is also huge potential for collaborative discovery across different subject boundaries. Good for our students because it means that they have opportunities to work alongside and learn from people in different departments. A number of our degrees also carry accreditations in a number of areas e.g. Bioengineering – quadruple accreditation by IET, IMechE, IOM3 and IPEM – made possible by the wide range of engineering teaching that we deliver here and making it a very flexible career choice. Cosmopolitan student community with students from over 125 countries around the world. With just over 16,000 students we are a comparatively small institution – smaller than UCL and King’s. Entry requirements are high. Reflects the high level of competition for places. A brief guide to Postgraduate Study
