The Purpose of ACC’s Strategic Plan: To re-envision specialty care with the goal of optimizing the role of cardiovascular professionals to meet the Triple Aim and ensure patient-centered appropriate care.

The ACC has Something for Everyone More than a dozen specialty-focused Sections and Councils Specialty-focused (Sports and Exercise, Interventional, Geriatric and more!) Early career and Fellows-in-Training Care team Women in cardiology Opportunities for meeting, networking and sharing of information within a smaller, focused group ACC sections are: Academic Cardiology Member Section The Academic Cardiology Member Section & Leadership Council provides a leadership forum for the academic and research community with the ACC, and serves as a voice of the academic cardiovascular community within, and outside of, the College. Adult Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology Member Section Since the founding of the Adult Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology (ACPC) Section in 2005, ACPC Section objectives have been aligned by the College's mission. Cardiovascular Imaging Section & Leadership Council The Cardiovascular Imaging Section & Leadership Council are fora which provide an opportunity for cardiovascular imaging society leaders and members to collaborate on issues facing cardiovascular specialists using imaging technologies to provide optimal patient care. Cardiovascular Team Member Section The Cardiovascular Team Council provides the Cardiac Care Associates (CCA) member segment with increased opportunities for engagement and integration in the overarching mission of the American College of Cardiology. Council on Clinical Practice The Council on Clinical Practice works to support the mission of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and serves as a resource to the divisions and programs of the College to provide recommendations on College activities of interest to cardiovascular practices. Early Career Section The Early Career Member Section & Leadership Council provides members in their first seven years out of training with support and resources to conquer the unique set of career stage & professional challenges they face. This Section provides members with a forum to learn, share knowledge and grow, and provides them with a voice within the College. FIT Center The Fellows in Training (FIT) Center provides FIT members with latest news and events, board preparation materials and other resources to help you succeed in your cardiology career and connect with other ACC members. Geriatric Cardiology Member Section The Geriatric Cardiology Section & CCCOA provides for those interested in helping define excellent cardiovascular care for an aging population prone to heart disease. Member will serve as an expert advisory resource on geriatric cardiology for the College's leadership & programs. Heart Failure and Transplant Section Leadership Council The ACC’s Heart Failure and Transplant Section Leadership Council is a leadership forum for heart failure and transplant specialists, which shall represent the heart failure community by identifying, developing, and implementing initiatives related to heart failure and acting as a liaison between heart failure specialists and ACC leadership. Interventional Member Section The Interventional Section and Leadership Council provides a forum for interventional cardiovascular specialist members within the ACC, and works to develop an overarching strategy for the College's current and upcoming interventional initiatives and activities. Sports and Exercise Cardiology Section & Leadership Council A section for all interested in sports and exercise cardiology, open to all ACC members with an interest in the cardiovascular care of the athlete and exercising individuals of all ages. Surgeon Council The ACC Surgeon Council is a leadership forum for cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons to identify, develop, and implement initiatives related to strengthening and enhancing the surgeon perspective within the American College of Cardiology. Training Directors Welcome Training Directors. This section is designed as a place for Training Directors to be informed of upcoming meetings, discuss current topics and address challenges with training programs. Women in Cardiology Member Section The Women in Cardiology Section of the ACC offers women cardiologists opportunities to strengthen their professional support system and skills through networking events, professional development and mentoring programs.

Key partnerships tackle the global health issues, help reduce burdens on CV professional, and facilitate improved physician/patient interactions Championed a set of nine health targets designed to combat NCDs worldwide Encourages physicians, patients and other health care stakeholders to think and talk about medical tests and procedures that may be unnecessary Programs likeThe Doctor’s Company provides savings on insurance premiums, while an online grants database helps budding cardiologists find research funding. CardioSmart is another great example of ways the College is partnering to help members raise awareness among patients about CV risks. Prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017

The program aims to encourage patient involvement and understanding of cardiovascular disease by supporting guideline-based care and prevention; provide wellness programs with sound health information and extend the patient-physician-professional relationship.

Patient Shared Decision ACC’s Clinical Toolkit Collection provides easy-to-use tools with practical solutions to address critical opportunities for improvement in cardiovascular care and bring about real change in the way care is delivered. These tools are evidence-based, field-tested, and facilitate improvement across the spectrum of quality by incorporating best practices that align with the flow of work in practices or hospitals. They are designed for both patients and clinicians and can be used for reference or at point-of-care.

The ACC drives the development of evidence-based guidelines, appropriate use criteria, performance measures and other clinical documents assist CV professionals with decision making New ACC/AHA guidelines on obesity, lipids, health living and risk assessment came out in Nov 2013. These are four of the five prevention guidelines that the ACC and AHA have collaborated with NHLBI to publish and disseminate.
