FAMOUS Picasso is famous because he did lots of paintings His art works were influenced with a lot of emotion. People could relate to his art works because he did his paintings on subjects that were going on the in the world. He was one of the best painters of his time. Some of his art works would auction off for over $90 million.

IMPORTANT FACTS Picasso learned about the basics of formal academic art training (figure drawing and painting oil) He learned to create images of himself by watching his father do life-like drawings. His first words were piz- piz ( shortening for lapiz)

DATES OF LIFE BLUE PERIOD(1901–1904), consisting of somber, blue-tinted paintings influenced by a trip through Spain and the recent death of a friend, often featuring depictions of acrobats, harlequins, prostitutes, beggars and artists. ROSE PERIOD (1905–1907), characterized by a more cheery style with orange and pink colors, and again featuring many harlequins. He met Fernande Olivier, a model for sculptors and artists, in Paris at this time, and many of these paintings are influenced by his warm relationship with her, in addition to his exposure to French painting. AFRICAN-INFLUENCED PERIOD(1908–1909), influenced by the two figures on the right in his painting, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, which were themselves inspired by African artifacts. ANALYTIC CUBISM(1909–1912), a style of painting he developed along with Braque using monochrome brownish colours, where they took apart objects and "analyzed" them in terms of their shapes. Picasso and Braque's paintings at this time are very similar to each other. SYNTEHTIC CUBISM(1912–1919), involving the use of collage and cut paper, the first time collage had been used in fine art.

BLUE PERIOD these paintings were heavily emotional they were some of his most popular works they were painted in Paris He chose to use blue colors with the paitings because of the suicide of his friend Carlos. Also because as a child he was poor and that was the only color he could afford. The most well known picture for this period was the Guitarist The painting is famous for a mysterious image painted underneath it. It is very likely that Picasso originally started painting a portrait of a woman who appears to possibly be seated and in an upset or worried mood. Not much of this image is visible except for her face and legs.

ROSE PERIOD This was a oil canvas painting. Picasso used these paintings because they were a cheerful time in his life. He used colors like orange and pink. This period was French influenced. The boy with pipe was Picasso’s highest selling painting, and the highest seliing painting ever. This was a oil canvas painting. This painting was at an auction in Sotheby’s in New York It auctioned off at 70 Million.

AFRICAN INFLUENCED TROIS FEMMES Between 1907 and 1909 Picasso painted in a style which was strongly influenced by African sculpture. During this time the French empire was expanding into Africa, and African artifacts were being brought back to Paris museums Also talked about was the mistreatments of African Americans TROIS FEMMES

CUBISM a style of painting he developed along with Braque using monochrome brownish colours, This is were they took apart an object and analyzed it. analyzed natural forms and reduced the picture forms into basic geometric parts on the two-dimensional plane. Le guitariste by Pablo Picasso

SYNTHETIC CUBISM The first work of this new style was Picasso's Still Life with Chair-caning (1911-12), which included oil cloth pasted on the canvas, and the letters JOU, which appears in many cubist paintings.

PERSONAL LIFE Picasso hated to be alone He usually kept a number of mistresses in addition to his wife Picasso married twice and had four children by three different women.

FERNANDE OLIVIER In the 21st century he began a relaitonship with Fernande Olivier. She is the one he married during the rose period. She wrote a book loving Picasso.

Marcelle Humbert He left Fernande to be with Marcelle Humbert He called her eva She became diagnosed with cancer and Picasso flew to Paris to tend to her every need He put her in many of his cubist art works

OLGA KHOKLOVA In 1918 Picasso married Olga Khoklova, a ballerina Olga introduced Picasso to high society life in Paris yet this also caused a great deal of friction in the relationship The two had a son, Paulo Picasso began a secret affair with 17 year old Marie-ThérPse Walter. Olga and Picasso separated, but remained married until Olga's death in 1955. Picasso had a daughter named Maria by his mistress Marie Walter.

NEW LOVE Picasso found a new lover named Dora Maar, and remained faithful. During this time he met a young art student, Françoise Gilot, with whom he started a relationship They were together for some ten years and had two children, Claude and Paloma. Picasso had a six-week affair with GeneviPve Laporte. Françoise left Picasso because of abuse and infidelities This was very hard on Picasso.  He was now in his 70's and upset that he was no longer such an attraction for young women.

Jacqueline Roque, The two remained together for the rest of Picasso's life. The marriage was part of a complex plan of Picasso's to take revenge on Françoise Gilot, the woman who left him
