Gas Turbine : Introduction A gas turbine is an internal combustion engine which uses gas as its fuel. Gas turbine works on Brayton cycle as shown below – Q 2 3 pressure 1 4 volume

Rating of 2 x 14.45 MW gas turbine – Continue…… Rating of 2 x 14.45 MW gas turbine – Model : W191G. Simple cycle, Single shaft Capacity : At site condition of 37.8 degree celcius,100 F and 120 m above sea level Rated power : 14.45 MW Speed : 4830 RPM Compressor : 15 stages Turbine : 5 stages Air flow : 106.8 kg/sec Max . Inlet temperature at base load : 787 degree Celsius Max. Turbine Exhaust Temperature at base load : 421 degree Celsius

Starting of 2x14.42MW Gas Turbine Gas turbine is not a self starting device. External prime movers are required to start the turbine . Equipments involved for starting the turbine are – Turning Gear Chain & Sprocket Arrangement Marland One Way Clutch Starting diesel with torque converter Pneumatic clutch & Clutch Air System Auxiliary gear box Bearing & Lubrication system

Continue…. PALO is first to operate. It will provide the lubricating oil to all the bearings of the system. Pneumatic clutch will operate second. It will link the Starting equipments to the auxiliary gear box. Turning gear will operate next. It is having a reduction gear box with chain & sprocket linkage. It will provide the breakaway torque to the turbine. Also required to roll the turbine during cooling cycle. Diesel engine with torque converter will next come up. It will provide the acceleration to the turbine upto self sustaining speed (385 Gen RPM). Auxiliary gear box is used to change the speed from one level to another.

Torque converter : This will provide the necessary torque for acceleration

Journal bearing : These bearing holds the generator shaft Journal bearing : These bearing holds the generator shaft. These are hydrodynamic bearing. After reaching the self sustaining speed of abot 380 RPM , clutch will disengage itself.

Equipments specification of GT starting system PALO - 22.7 KW (30 HP) AC motor, 1800 rpm, 415 V AC Turning Gear Motor – 3.73 KW (5HP) ,1750 rpm,125 V DC Turning gear - Over all reduction – 200:1 Auxiliary gear box – Pinion speed (Turbine)– 4830 rpm Starting gear speed (Auxiliary shaft)- 2941rpm Main LO Pump Gear speed- 3718 rpm Diesel engine – 2100 rpm,425 HP

Gas Turbine Emission Monitoring of 20.28 MW GTG After starting , power will be available from the generator. During the power generation, fuel- air mixture is burnt and some undesired gases like NOx, SOx, CO, CO2 etc. are produced which are not eco – friendly. In old GTs we don’t not have gas analyzer system but new 20.28 MW is having a gas analyzer.

Gas Analyser The gas components measured are – A) NOX B) SO2 NDIR type infrared gas analyzer, type ZKJ The gas components measured are – A) NOX B) SO2 C) CO INFRARED GAS ANALYSER D) CO2 E) CH4

Operational Condition Power supply required --- operating voltage : 85 V to 264 V AC rated frequency : 50/60 Hz power consumption : 250 VA max ambient temperature : - 5 to 45 degree C Range – NOX : (0 – 100) ppm/(0- 2000) ppm SO2 : (0 – 100) ppm/(0- 2000)ppm
