The trail will consist of combination of off-street trails; on-street (signed only) bicycle routes; on-street signed and striped bicycle lanes and existing bikeways. The proposed trail will connect 18 schools and universities including College of DuPage and Benedictine University; 29 local parks; 10 DuPage County forest preserves containing over 4,000 acres of open space; and 12 other points of interest including Morton Arboretum, golf courses and sports facilities. The proposed trail will also connect to 4 other regional trails including the Great Western Trail, Illinois Prairie Path, Southern DuPage County Regional Trail, and North Central DuPage Regional Trail. As the proposed trail traverses south it will be easily accessible to over 420,000 residents in the communities of Bloomingdale, Addison, Glendale Heights, Glen Ellyn, Lombard, Downers Grove, Wheaton, Lisle, and Woodridge. The East Branch DuPage River Greenway Trail Feasibility Study has been separated into 14 main segments, 12 sub-segments, 3 alternates and 2 long term improvements totaling 31 separate trail sections that can be implemented as funding becomes available by the various agencies within the study corridor. It is anticipated that implementation of the trail corridor will take place over the next ten years and have a preliminary estimated cost of $ 21.6 million.
