Creating Google Expeditions Cohort Meeting #2

What Teachers Need On your phone please download and install Google Street View app Objective: Teachers will be able to take a 360 photo and create a Google-like Expedition with their students. Apps we will use: Google Street View, 360 Panorama, StorySpheres

Creating a 360 Photo (must use Street View or other 360 app) Step 1: Open Google Street View app on your device. Step 2: Next, click on “+” , then camera to take a photosphere. Step 3: After selecting a location, take a photosphere, or 360-degree panoramic photo, by pointing at and following the series of yellow dots that appear as you move the camera around to capture a 360-degree view of your location. * You must do an entire circle before moving the camera up and down. *Make sure to move your device up, down, left and right. This will ensure the most immersive experience.

Creating a 360 Photo (must use Street View or other 360 app) Step 4: After you create your photo in Google Street View, the image will appear in the gallery with the rest of your photos. Now it’s time to publish to Google Maps so that others can see it. Step 5: Click on your location (red dot). Then click on Profile. Your 360 images should appear. Tap on one to open it. Next, click on the Cardboard icon in the top right corner and place in your Goggles. Step 6: Set your phone in the the cardboard case to see the image as an VR immersive experience.

StorySpheres: Create an Audio Story with your 360 Photo Download 360 pic to laptop (can usually email to yourself) Open StorySpheres in a new tab This is a Google product so it is connected with your account Click on Create, then the + sign in the bottom right corner

StorySpheres: Create an Audio Story with your 360 Photo 4. Upload pic and some short (20-30 sec.) audio track Get free audio tracks here, https://www.lcps.org/Page/707 (must be Mp3) Record your own audio using Audacity (standard on school computers) Click Next button In Studio you can put your audio together with your pic Audio tracks automatically show up 1st time you open all tracks will play Single click “angle=X” singles this track out (others will not play) If click “synced”, the track loops in the background Uncheck both synced and click to play to ignore track Click “to play” to line up circles and play track. Name each track

Application in the Classroom Have students create their own StorySphere, by taking a 360 image, recording their own audio using Audacity and then designing story using StorySphere application. Have students research a location, artifact or landmark and then create an expedition that they share with others simply by posting their photosphere. Students will engage in reading for a purpose and then synthesize what they have read into an informative piece of writing that goes along with their VR expedition.

Application in the Classroom Students can also view spheres that people all over the world have taken and published to Google Maps. Simply enter a search term by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the upper left corner of the app for the location they want to see. It will bring up a collection of images of that particular place. You can use them to launch discussions in science or social studies class.
