Welcome Mrs. Nunn’s 4th Grade Classroom

Meet Your Commander Welcome to another wonderful school year at Southwood School. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Stephanie Nunn and I am a graduate of Monmouth University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. I also have a Masters Degree in Teaching and Learning. I have been a teacher here at Southwood School for the past 14 years but I have been in the teaching field for the past 20 years. I am looking forward to a fun and exciting year with your child. I hope I was able to answer any questions you might have had this evening. Please let me know if you have any further questions, concerns, or suggestions in order to make this year a great one. My contact information is as follows: Southwood School: 732-360-4539 School Email: snunn@obps.org Class Website: http://www.oldbridgeadmin.org/webpages/snunn/ .

What’s Your Superpower? We Learn. What’s Your Superpower? Homework will be assigned every Monday through Thursday with occasional assignments given on Friday to be completed over the weekend. Math homework will be assigned each night from either the student guide text, the workbook or a skills worksheet. Language Arts homework will be given each night as well and could cover several topics including grammar, writing or reading. Science, Health, Writing, and Social Studies homework will vary from week to week depending on the topics being covered as well as our switching schedule.

What’s Your Superpower? We Learn. What’s Your Superpower? Reading logs will also be completed on a weekly basis. Students will complete one assignment per week connected to the assigned book. They may also read personal books to complete their daily log. Homework is based on the lessons taught each day and is a very important part of your child’s overall grade. Every homework assignment should be neat and have their full name, date and class number on the top of the paper. Please check their planner and assignments each night!

Incredible Behavior! ClassDojo, is a tool I will be using to help build your student’s learning habits and boost classroom engagement.  ClassDojo allows me to track student behavior and learning skills throughout the day.   One of the great features of ClassDojo is that it allows me to send you a “behavior and skills report” every Friday by email.  My hope is that this will bring you and me closer together and help you better understand the progress of your student on a week to week basis. You can also contact me and see what’s happening in our classroom using Class Story.

Incredible Behavior! 30 points =Art/Computers/Music Buck You can check in each day and see how your child is doing. Students can “trade” points in for class rewards. 30 points =Art/Computers/Music Buck  35 points = Keep a Stuffed Animal on your desk 40 points = Homework Punch Helper  45 points = Use a pen for the day 50 points = Job Changer (Fridays Only)  60 points = Read to Kindergarten/1st Grade  65 points = Homework Pass for one subject only  75 points = Use the iPad for classwork  80 points = Inside Recess w/ Mrs. Bruno’s Class 85 points = Lunch Seat with Mrs. Bruno’s Class 100 points = Desk Swap/Sit with a Friend 150 points = Sit at the teacher's desk

Super Scientist of the Week! Each week a different student from our class will have an opportunity to be our guest scientist. He or she will prepare an experiment or demonstration to teach the class about any science concept. The week before the student’s assigned day, he or she will take home our special “Scientist’s Kit”, which will include a folder with sample experiments. The student may choose one of those ideas or come up with something on their own. Experiments or demonstrations can be related to what we are studying in science, but that is not a requirement. Students will practice at home and then come to school with the materials necessary to present the experiment to the class.

Homework Heroes Club In order to be a member of the Homework Heroes Club your child must complete their homework each and every night.  Each student will receive a homework punch card during our first full week of school.  Each day if your child has completed ALL of the previous night's homework they will receive a "punch" on their card at the end of the day.  Once they have had their entire card "punched" they will receive a certificate and be invited to join the Homework Heroes Club.  Each time a card is filled the child will receive a new card.  Then once TWO cards are completely filled they will become a homework pass for the child to use for ONE assignment in ONE subject.  It is your child's responsibility to keep track of their homework cards.  They will not receive a new card if they should misplace the original card. Homework Punch Cards and Homework Passes only apply to subjects that are taught by Mrs. Nunn.

Thank You I look forward to working with you and your child this year. It will be a year of wonderful things ahead!
