Start Game

Why is Sophomore Year Important? Colleges start calculating grades received in the 10th grade for college admissions. They calculate: Summer + 10th Grade + Summer + 11th Grade + Summer Start practicing to take tests required for college admissions PSAT or Pre-ACT All sophomores will be taking the PSAT district-wide October 19th. Will include Geometry and some Algebra 2 This is a junior level test, but great practice for sophomores Will get personalized practice recommendations through Khan Academy. Fitness Test Requirement Will take again if student did NOT pass

Things to Focus on Sophomore Year Challenge Yourself. Do more than the minimum. Consider H/AP courses. Continue involvement in activities on and off campus Consider assuming more responsibilities or leadership roles in clubs/organizations. Build relationships with your teachers. Start thinking about careers that interest you. Research Career and Colleges Naviance, College Visits, College/Career Fairs Check out College and Career Center

Keeping Your Grades Up! Advocate for yourself - Communication Show up and participate Practice and apply what you are learning Don’t give up!

Honors and AP Courses Faster pace, more challenging CSU & UC schools only – Extra grade point for a grade of C or better A maximum of 8 extra points allowed for approved honors and AP level courses. If you take an AP level class you are expected to take the AP test As you choose your Honors/AP classes, be realistic about what you can handle.

Making Up Classes If repeating D’s during the school year, this can ONLY be in math and foreign language. In all other subjects, D’s are considered passing for HS graduation. Must have failed a core academic course required for graduation to have it built in to their schedule. Repeating Courses and GPA calculations

Planning Ahead Research careers and colleges through Naviance Make your best effort to excel in all your classes this semester Plan for college testing and course selection Attend college representative presentations Join or create a club that you’re passionate about Look into volunteer opportunities Look into activities for next year that you’re interested in Visit colleges so you know what to look forward to Participate in job shadowing
