Why Study at a University of Applied Sciences (UAS)? UAS and Universities are learning establishments: UAS are practical learning establishments Universities are primarily research-oriented There are various access routes: General University (certificate), Technical College (vocational diploma), Technical University, University Technical College (vocational diploma), subject-specific High School Within the lectures framework the theory is always made clear and comprehensible with practical exercises and examples. Additionally, laboratory exercises and simulations are carried out. Lecture contents are coordinated across disciplines. Integrated Internship (Opportunity for internship abroad) After Bachelor additional Master programmes are established Even promotions are now established at UAS (and always in cooperation with a professional matching university institute) Prof. Dr. Balve: Study Programme MOM 2017

The Learning Factory in Action … The Heilbronn Learning Factory in a Nutshell 2017
Our Learning Factory in a Nutshell Mainly project-based approach with problem-based learning elements Compulsory course for each 6th semester student as part of the bachlor‘s programme Manufacturing and Operations Management with 20 to 35 students every semester Workload of 16 ECTS credits 5 graded exams based on team, company, and individual performance The learning environment is comparable to a real-world manufacturing company with respect to dynamics and complexity Besides improving and demonstrating a high level of vocational knowledge, the main goal of the Heilbronn Learning Factory is to develop practical skills, social skills, responsibility and autonomy. Students‘ supervision – and assessing their performance – takes place in an interdisciplinary way, typically carried out by 5 to 7 professors Participants winter semester 2015/16 The Heilbronn Learning Factory in a Nutshell 2017
The Pop Pop Boat: Example for a Project Assignment Promotional gift of an internationally operating shipyard stationed in Europe Market price small series ≤ 45 €, profit margin 15 % Project budget for materials: 1.800 € for approx. 60 units Source of energy for propulsion system: burner paste Velocity and course have to be adjustable Two propulsion system options have to be developed: a silent product version and a sound emitting version (“pop pop sound“) Maximum footprint of 14,8 cm x 21 cm (DIN A5), presentable boat stand required Prestigious look-and-feel (materials, surface, shape and alike), prototypes and small series can be manufactured in the Learning Factory A packaging solution has to be provided Final product The Heilbronn Learning Factory in a Nutshell 2017
