ClimateCam Billboard With out ClimateCam it would be like trying to stop people from speeding in a world where motor vehicles have no speedometers ClimateCam will be used to measure and report reductions in city wide greenhouse gas emissions. The Development Approval for the world’s first city smart meter and greenhouse gas speedometer has been lodged with Newcastle City Council for installation on this high profile site in the CBD. Construction is expected to start in the new financial year. The LED screen will promote the Solar Cities program and report the City’s progress toward achieving its new energy consumption and energy demand reduction targets that will be confirmed at the Regions 3rd Energy Town meeting. Hourly updates from the City’s 14 Zone substations will also be displayed on the ClimateCam billboard and on the climatecam website.

Hourly Data Capture and Storage for the City’s 15 Zones Newcastle’s ClimateCam is Globally Unique The consumption data is updated for each of the 15 ClimateCam Zones on the ClimateCam website. We now plan to map the end energy use of each of the 15 Zones to assist us in our target setting for 2012, 2020 and 2050 Hourly Data Capture and Storage for the City’s 15 Zones

Newcastle’s 15 Zones LIVING TEST LABORATORY FOR CLEAN TECHNOLOGY The geographic boundaries for each of the zones can be seen on this map within the new www.climatecam.com website. This allows the residents to learn which Zone they belong to and to monitor their progress as the Together TODAY program is rolled out 14 Solar Zones

Newcastle 2020 Carbon & Water MAP ELECTRICITY MANAGEMENT - COUNCIL OPERATIONS REF Category Action Responsibility Timeline NCCE001 Commitment Newcastle City Council endorse the implementation of the Newcastle 2020 Carbon & Water Management Action Plan (Carbon & Water MAP) NCCE002 Newcastle City Council Executive Leadership Team (ELT) resolve to take all necessary action to ensure that the required funding and resources are afforded to the implementation of the Carbon & Water MAP that specifically relate to Council operations. This action will reference the level of future investment based on an agreed IRR for projects based upon consumption cost reductions, maintenance cost reduction or improved productivity. NCCE003 Policy Develop & Adopt an electricity policy for the organisation that includes specific references to hours of use, heating and cooling temperature settings etc NCCE004 Communication Establish a 5 year communication strategy for the organisation that supports the rapid implementation of the NCC Operations component of the Carbon & Water MAP, and the achievement of the accompanying carbon and water reduction targets NCCE005 Establish the ClimateCam information portal on Council’s intranet that provides ready access to information and tools that support a whole of organisation approach to Carbon and Water management. The structure of this will adopt a similar approach to that of OHS and workplace safety for employees. ClimateCam will help make the workplace safe for the environment. DRAFT

Monitoring & Reporting Systems Teamwork and Partnerships Newcastle 2020 Carbon & Water MAP ELECTRICITY MANAGEMENT – COUNCIL OPERATIONS REF Category Action Responsibility Timeline NCCE006 Baseline Information Complete a detailed carbon footprint report that confirms and documents the historic greenhouse gas pollution data with regard to electricity for all NCC operational activities. This information will set the reference points for all future targets COMPLETE NCCE007 Monitoring & Reporting Systems Develop a monitoring and reporting protocol specific to the reporting needs of the organisation. This work will build on and complete previous work in this area that aims to automate the collection of detailed performance information from all Electricity data points. Automation of this data collection and distribution will be done through Council’s Intranet. NCCE008 Teamwork and Partnerships Establish the Carbon & Water Management Team comprising of representation from all NCC service units and at least one Executive Leadership Team member sponsor NCCE009 Partner with strategic organisations that can add value to the Carbon and Water MAP implementation process.
