DISCLAIMER The purpose of this document is to provide the design engineer with the guidelines for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, nurse call, commissioning and controls, specified herein on NYPH campuses. This does not substitute the design engineer’s specifications for each project but provides the basis of the standards, which the design engineer shall follow. “ “The final responsibility for the design of the specific project resides with the design engineer of record.”

NYP Design Standards General Requirements The New York Presbyterian Design Standards shall be used by architectural design and engineering consultants, contractors, and hospital staff involved in the design, new construction, and renovation of NYPH facilities. The NYP Design Standards provides both general guidelines as well as detailed specifications for the design and selection of MEP/FP systems and equipment. To ensure that all NYPH projects follow the same standards, an Engineering Check List has been developed and must be used while developing all phases of the project design documents. NYP Design Specifications March 2015 Edition

NYP Design Specifications Update Mechanical Division 23 All air systems requiring humidification must include clean steam generators with water softeners Standardized BMS controls packages for mechanical equipment Butterfly valves are not accepted for steam use or at WC campus All isolation rooms/pressure rooms to include: Room Pressurization Module (RPM) – NO “Ball in Wall” sensors Tracking pair VAV’s (Supply & Return) controlled by BMS Bifurcated AHU w/ fan array requires: One VFD per bank Backdraft dampers for each fan Structural supports to remove fan or motor integrated with unit NYP Design Specifications Update 2015 Highlights NYP Requirements

NYP Design Specifications Update Electrical Division 26 All emergency branch circuits to be in conduit; normal branch circuits are permitted in hospital grade HCF-90 cable w/FO approval All branch circuits to have dedicated neutral conductors; no shared neutrals or multipole (common trip) breakers are permitted All switchboard to be bolted to concrete housekeeping pads or welded steel rails in pads (High/Medium voltage boards) ATS – 4 pole overlapping by-pass type w/ load shed accessory; serial communicator & power monitoring w/ remote annunciator Requirements for GFI Circuit Breakers to be installed in lieu of GFI outlets in wet locations Hubble hospital grade receptacles (including tamper resistant hospital grade receptacles) ONLY NYP Design Specifications Update 2015 Highlights NYP Requirements

NYP Design Specifications Update Plumbing Division 22 No crimp or press fittings permitted All plumbing fixtures to be coordinated w/ NYP Interior Guidelines Revisions to the Plumbing Fixtures – Site specific and area specific Review and update to meet the latest 2014 NYC Building Code & 2014 FGI requirements. Equipment Selection Process Equipment pre- approval process developed with NYP Facilities Operations to standardize to improve maintenance and reduce the number of spare parts “Or Equal” was eliminated from the recommended manufacturers when 3 or more manufacturers were listed. A handful of “Proprietary” equipment manufacturers such as: ASCO Automatic Transfer Switches were identified as NYPH Standards. Architects and Engineering Firms are to use selected NYP pre- approved Equipment from the Equipment Cut e-book that resides on the portal. Equipment Selection Process
