NOTE: Degree/Major is generally not a factor in rated selection Rated Slot Selection Pilot, Remotely Piloted Aircraft Operator, Combat Systems Officer/Navigator, and Air Battle Manager candidates selected in Spring of year prior to graduation NOTE: Degree/Major is generally not a factor in rated selection The AF reserves the right to CAP the number of EE’s and CE’s selected for rated slots. The FY11 board limits the number to the top 25% in these degrees. Washing out of pilot training can impact whether or not the AF retains the member.

Pilot Candidate Selection Method

Service Commitments When do I sign the contract with the Air Force and become “obligated”? Non-scholarship cadets: Day 1 of junior year In-College Scholarship cadets: Once you activate your scholarship “Freshman Option” (High School Scholarship Winners); may drop prior to Day 1 of sophomore year with no obligation/payback Commitments after Commissioning 10 years = Pilot (after 1 year of training) 6 years = Remote Piloted Aircraft/Combat Systems Operator (Navigator) / Air Battle Manager (after 1 year of training) 4 years = all other jobs (this includes any training time) We are still waiting to find out if the RPA commitment will be the same as a normal Pilot commitment.
