Agenda About Ms. Verdugo Classroom Rules Rules Magnet Board Curriculum Assessments STAR testing Homework Novels Grades Mass Sunday Sale Field Trips

Classroom rules Students are expected to follow all class rules Follow directions quickly Raise your hand quietly to ask for permission to speak. Raise your hand to ask for permission to leave your seat. Keep your hands, feet, and all objects to yourself, we must respect everyone. Make smart choices Listen when your teacher is talking Use your words to solve your conflicts inside and outside the classroom and on the school yard. Always do your best!

Our behavior Magnet board how did we behave? Each child has a magnet with a number written on the magnet. Their number is their classroom student number given according to their last name. Everyone starts their day on green and can either move up or down depending on their behavior and effort shown inside and outside the classroom. Students will be asked throughout the day to move their magnets by the teacher. Purple- Outstanding! Students made good choices, stayed on task, and had great behavior. Blue- Good day! Students were on task and made good choices. Green- Ready to learn! All students will begin their day here. Yellow- Think about it, , I need time to reflect, not on task or my behavior is not the best. Students will also have yellow if their homework is incomplete ,but may move up if completed during recess. Red- Office visit and/or parent contact.

Curriculum We will be following the Common Core Curriculum, and standards set for third grade in all subject areas.

Assessments All assessments will take place during different times throughout the school year. Students will know ahead of time when tests are coming up, they will be writing this info on their homework agendas for you to view as well. Students will be testing four times a year for Renaissance Learning, STAR which is required by the Archdioceses of Los Angeles. We did have our first window of testing last week. There will also be end of chapter subject assessment tests, spelling and vocabulary tests, and minute math drills. Spelling and Vocabulary will alternate weekly. Tests for spelling and vocabulary will be given on Tuesdays. Accelerator Reader students will take a leveled reading test in the classroom. They will be able to take a test on all AR books they read for points. Books can be checked out here at our school library, class room library or from other city/county libraries as long as they are AR they can test on the books. Monthly prayers

AR Book Scanner app You can use this app to check if books are AR when checking out outside of school.

Homework agenda and Reading Logs Students will receive their homework agenda the beginning of the week, here they will write down their homework daily. It will be their responsibility to make sure they have it written down before they go home. Please ensure this homework agenda is signed by a parent after homework has been reviewed. Reading Logs will also be part of their daily homework agendas. Students will be required to read daily for a minimum of 20 minutes and write about what they read. This reading log can be written behind their homework agenda where it can be checked and signed off along with the rest of their homework. (only one signature per night)

Grades www.jupitergrades.com If you are a new user please make sure to register onto the system. Without registering you will not be able to receive your child’s report cards as all report cards are now emailed. If you have an existing account the password and username will remain the same.

Mass 3rd Grade will be attending mass on Friday mornings. However, since P.E. is also on Fridays they will come dressed in their P.E. uniform unless the student is one of our chosen mass readers. If your child is one of our mass readers, they will come to school in their regular school uniform and bring P.E. clothes in a bag to change into after mass. We will be attending mass with 4th grade, I will choose two readers for mass every other week as we will trade off with 4thgrade. I will send home the readings for the readers the Monday before, if possible the Friday before to allow enough time for practice. Sunday Family Mass- students are now required to attend one Sunday family mass a month. It is the second Sunday of every month. Their attendance to Sunday mass will be a Religion grade given on their report card so it is very important that the students attend. Family mass is at 9:45am.

3rd grade Sunday sale Our Sunday food sale will be on Sunday November 12th, 2017. It is a $25.00 donation for the purchase of food, and one case of sodas (12). Please take note that teachers will not do any scheduling for the food sale, you must sign up prior to the date on the office bulletin board next to the front office. If you have any questions please see me and we can discuss any questions or concerns.

Field trips If you or any other family members are planning to chaperone on any of our field trips or volunteer at our school please ensure you and all volunteers are Live Scan Finger printed through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and that you and all volunteers are VIRTUS trained.
