HOW HAS MATHS GCSE HAS CHANGED? MATHEMATICS PREVIOUS ASSESSMENT CURRENT ASSESSMENT Paper 1 – Non-Calculator 1h 45 1h 30 Paper 2 – Calculator Paper 3 – Calculator THE NEW MATHS GCSE IS 1 HOUR LONGER IN TOTAL STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO SIT THREE PAPERS THERE IS A LOT MORE CONTENT TO TEACH

AN EXAMPLE OF HOW MATHS GCSE HAS CHANGED PREVIOUSLY: Solve the simultaneous equations (4 marks): 3x + 2y = 4 4x + 5y = 17 NEW STYLE QUESTION (4 marks): Susie has to deliver some packages and some parcels. The total number of packages is 4 times the number of parcels. The total number of packages and parcels is 40 Each parcel has a weight of 1.5 kg. The total weight of the packages and parcels is 37.6 kg. Each of the packages has the same weight. Work out the weight of each package.

WHAT WE DOING TO PREPARE YOUR CHILD FOR THESE CHANGES: We have started teaching the GCSE course from year 7 We have changed our assessments to reflect the changes at GCSE We now monitor the performance of the students against the GCSE standards/criteria We are identifying students that are struggling and providing them with additional support We are ensuring that homework questions are of GCSE standard We are aiming to finish teaching the course at the end of year 10 to give enough time to go over things in year 11 We are making sure that the quality of teaching matches GCSE standard in all subjects

WHEN WILL YOUR CHILD BE ASSESSED THIS TERM? IN ADDITION TO INFORMAL ASSESSMENTS IN LESSONS, YOUR CHILD WILL BE TESTED FORMALLY EACH TERM: Term 1 Monday 28th November 2016 – Friday 9th December 2016 Term 2 Monday 13th March 2017 – Friday 17th March 2017 Term 3 Tuesday 6th June 2017 – Friday 16th June 2017 Explain the format of assessment weeks Revision material- class book or revision guides
