What was Jim Crow? Jim Crow was an era of laws that existed in the South between 1877-the mid 60’s. These laws and codes lasted for nearly 90 plus years. They subjugated African Americans to all types of racism from jobs, public transportation, housing and any other major aspect of public life. Jim Crow truly blossomed after the Supreme court case of Plessey V Ferguson which all but abolished the 14thamendment and 15th amendment. The ruling made segregation legal. This case would not be overturned until Brown V Board of Education.

14th Amendment All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

15th Amendment The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
