Modern Language Association 8th Edition Professional Style, Prevents Plagiarism

Online Citation EasyBib Designed for: elementary and middle school students — not the best for college work.

Online Citation Citation Machine, “Our plagiarism checker scans millions of sites and papers on the internet.” Eventually, it may work well. Currently, it is not fully updated to MLA 8.

Online Citation Purdue Owl has changed to MLA 8. It supports writers with grammar and punctuation, helps prevent plagiarism, but does not generate online citations. Purdue Owl is part of Purdue University.

MLA 7 and 8 have the same header information and design Writer’s Name Instructor’s Name Class Name Date Title The essay begins……. The header is double spaced, at the top of the first page, and flush with the left margin.

MLA 8 #1 — Author Last name, first name. Fitzgerald, F. Scott. The author’s name appears at the start of the citation if you are discussing something created by a writer.

MLA 8 #1 — Author Two authors: Sayers, Dorothy, and Robert Eustace. The Documents in in the Case. HarperTorch,1995. When there are three or more authors, only the first author is shown then followed by et al. Almond, David, et al. Click. Scholastic, 2007. Notice: No city, No state, No “Print” in MLA 8.

MLA 8 #1— Author If an author is a performer, creator, etc. the beginning of the citation works this way: Last name, First name, performer. Last name, First name, creator.

MLA 8 #2 — Container MLA 8 uses the word “container” to relate to a larger whole that “holds” the source.

MLA 8 #2 — Container In MLA 8’s citations, “container” defines the object that: holds words (books, anthologies, journals, periodicals, magazines, library archives) presents visuals (television series, art, a museum, website, online database) discusses auditory work (songs, iTunes, radio).

MLA 8 — Core Elements 1. Author(s). 2. Title of the source. 3. Title of the container, 4. Other contributors, 5. Version, 6. Numbers, (volume, episode) 7. Publisher, 8. Publication date, 9. Location.

MLA 8 #2 — Container Titles: The main title is italicized. Examples — A novel: The Old Man and the Sea. A textbook: How to Write Anything.

MLA 8 #2 — Container Book: Atwood, Margaret. The Handmaid’s Tale. InIntroduction by Valerie Martin. Alfred A. Knopf, 202006. “Introduction” is included if you share something from another writer in the book being cited.

MLA 8 #2 — Container Different volumes of a book: Twain, Mark. Autobiography of Mark Twain. EdEdited by Harriet E. Smith, et al., vol. 3, U of CaCalifornia P. 2015. Look again— et al., vol. 3, U of California P.

In MLA 7, the volume, issue, and page numbers did not have abbreviation designations. MLA 8 #2 — Container Magazine, journal, album, series: Parker, James. “The Passion of FlFlannery O’Connor.” The Atlantic MMonthly, Nov. 2014, pp. 36+. pp. 36+ tells the reader that the article continues on other pages, not on consecutive pages.

MLA 8 #2 — Container Song: Rihanna. “Don’t Stop the Music.” GGood Girl Gone Bad, Track 3, DDef Jam, 2007.

MLA 7 had an instructor decide if a URL should be included in the citation. In MLA 8, the website’s address will be used, but without http:// or https://
