Continuing Medical Education

What is the role of Continuing Medical Education here at Rady’s? To provide guidance and approval for pediatric CME programs here at RCHSD To provide weekly administrative support for the Grand Round series and to plan, coordinate, oversee the Summer Grand Rounds series here at RCHSD To plan, coordinate, oversee the RCHSD-sponsored Annual Advances in Pediatrics conference To provide meeting planning and coordination for a fee for interested departments organizing conferences

Relationship with UCSD UC San Diego School of Medicine CME is one of a very limited number of programs to achieve ACCME Accreditation with Commendation For an annual fee, the UC San Diego School of Medicine CME is the accredited provider for all Rady Children’s pediatric CME activities The Rady Children’s CME Office will continue to provide guidance and approval of pediatric CME programs

UCSD CME Accreditation Overview UC San Diego School of Medicine CME provides accreditation for the following main activity types: Live Activity Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS) Enduring Material

Main CME Activity Types Live Activity: An activity that occurs at a specific time. Examples are: Conferences Internet Webinars Teleconferences

Main CME Activity Types Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS): An activity that is a planned series with multiple sessions, occurs on an ongoing basis (weekly, monthly, or quarterly), and primarily planned by and presented by UCSD’s professional staff. Examples: Grand Rounds Case Conferences Tumor Boards M & M Conferences

Main CME Activity Types Enduring Material- Home study activity that endures over a specific time Examples: Web-based activities Archived webinars Podcasts, CD-ROMs, DVDs

Fee Structure with UCSD Accreditation Live Activities: $2,000 standard fee- conferences that receive any sponsorship and/or charge registration fees 10 with no fees- conferences that do not receive any sponsorship and do not charge participant registration fees (free conferences) There is an application process for no fee conferences twice per year. Please watch for Request for Applications that go out from the CME office. 2. RSS activities: 40 activities at no charge 3. Enduring Material: $5,000 per activity

How do I qualify for No Fee? Applies to Live Activities Must comply with the following requirements: No income Do not charge participants for participation Do not show industry exhibits or presentations There is an application and selection process for no fee conferences (RFA from CME office) twice per year. In general, live activities that enroll at least 20 persons have a better chance for success.

Full Meeting Support The Chadwick Center for Children, which has more than 30 years of experience in organizing conferences, will provide meeting planning and coordination for a fee ($25,000/meeting) for interested departments organizing conferences Additional planning services and commercial support solicitations for a fee are also available from the UC San Diego School of Medicine CME office
