The Waisman Center is home to both a Eunice Kennedy Shriver Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center and a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. 

Community Outreach Wisconsin (COW) 122 E. Olin Ave., Suite 100

Community Outreach Wisconsin (COW) COW programs contract with Dane County Human Services and work extensively with individuals and community teams supporting persons with developmental disabilities. In Family Care/IRIS counties are no longer required to fund these long-term-care support services.

TIES Outreach Behavior Consultants Meet individuals in their homes and workplaces to build rapport and then collaborate with community teams around general best practices in positive behavior support based on the unique needs of the person . Develop and maintain long-standing relationships with the person and his/her support team. Ongoing participation in teams. Offer individualized situational counseling and/or facilitate access to other available therapeutic resources (psychotherapy, psychiatry) in the community.

TIES Outreach Behavior Consultants Write Behavior Support Plans that are focused on holistic and proactive approaches and provide personalized training to care givers. Consult around specialized support needs: - self-regulation through mindfulness and sensory integration - co-occurring mental illness - personal and community safety -home modifications -restrictive measures - pro-active outreach to law enforcement to prevent unnecessary out of home placements or hospitalizations.

TIES Clinic Psychiatric care and consultation for Dane County children and adults with developmental disabilities (but not psychotherapy). TIES clinic patients are connected – and referrals are reviewed by - TIES consultants. Crisis Response Program: In cooperation with Responsive Solutions Service. Inc (RSI) Crisis planning and crisis coordination Additional support through Crisis Response Outreach staff Temporary stay at Dane County’s Safe House

WIN (Wellness Inclusion Nursing) The Wellness Inclusion Nursing (WIN) Program nurses serve as consultants to residential and vocational team members, families and health care providers focusing on restoring, maintaining and promoting maximal health and independence for adults with developmental disabilities (DD) so they can achieve the best life possible. http://cow.waisman.wisc.edu/win.html Marcia Stickel Joanne Law Carmella Smith

WIN (Wellness Inclusion Nursing) Working together with teams to support individuals with complex medical needs: Nursing assessments Training and health education to residential and vocational support staff and family Coordination of hospital stays and discharges to facilitate a smooth and positive process Education and advocacy to medical staff in medical settings Advocacy and planning for end of life care
