Worried about dementia ?

Worried about dementia? Short term memory loss Mood changes Communication problems

Worried about dementia? We need to recognise this condition more quickly If you have any worries about someone you know, talk to one of the Practice team

Who gets dementia? Men and women get dementia 1 in 14 people over 65 will be affected There are 800,000 people diagnosed with dementia in the UK BUT it is under diagnosed

Who gets dementia? People are usually over the age of 65 yrs but it can happen when you are younger The impact of dementia can sometimes be softened with special drugs if diagnosed early

Try and remember this sentence "good citizens always wear stout shoes "

Becoming forgetful does not mean you have dementia There are many reasons people become forgetful If you are worried about yourself or someone close to you, discuss their presentation with one of the nurses or doctors Remember everyone is unique and no two people are likely to experience dementia in the same way

Making a diagnosis This can take a long time A review of the background information is necessary A physical examination and tests are necessary Simple memory tests can be done A specialist may be seen to confirm the diagnosis
