AFCEA Pelican Chapter Initiative: Developing a Cybersecurity outreach program within THE Tampa bay & St. Pete AREA communities

Mission Statement The AFCEA Pelican Chapter will inspire and ignite a passion for cybersecurity within the youth of Tampa Bay & St. Pete school districts through an annual “Cyber Fortress” program engineered to educate, foster and cultivate a willingness to commit to a life long journey in defending commercial, academia, and government interests from cyberspace threats Vision: AFCEA Pelican Chapter is interested in developing a cyber outreach program to encourage local students to pursue a career in cybersecurity in hopes they will attend cybersecurity programs at local universities and colleges, compete for internships and move on to full time employment opportunities at local commercial, academia, and government institutions Leverage existing relationships; The Florida Center for Cybersecurity, the University of South Florida, professional organizations, industry, other academic institutions, and SOFWERX

Cyber Fortress Program Outline Program development Timelines, curriculum, courseware development, scholarships, trophies, medals Identify volunteers (must be members of AFCEA) AFCEA Pelican Chapter Industry partners (need a minimum of 15 industry partners) USSOCOM Cyber Protection Team, MARCENT, 6th AF Comms, CENTCOM, JCSE Need to solicit / leverage volunteers from local businesses & industry Potential for cyber companies to sponsor the teams (t-shirts), provide hardware, software, etc… Solicit interest from high schools Start small (4 High Schools) with the intent to grow Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee, Polk, Sarasota Seminole High and Countryside High – (confirmed) A vendor partner will sponsor a school ( Basically be the “Host” sponsor company. They will help the students with their T- shirt design, provide SW/HW/equipment as needed, volunteers, etc…) Teach, Mentor, Coach Spread the volunteers among the participating schools Plan to host 7 events in conjunction with curriculum learning: (4) Field trips to each participating school (all schools and other participants attend), (3) field trips to local NOCs – FBI, SOCOM GEOC, etc… Cyber Protection Team NCOs are prepared to lead the school teams with assistance from other volunteers Final event “Defend the Network” competition at the end of the program – CYBER FORTRESS 2017-2018 Potential to leverage the Florida Center for Cybersecurity to run a “high school” event similar to their annual Capture the Flag event or leverage another organization with experience Include teams from the National Guard, colleges to inspire and mentor the high school teams (recruiting)

Initial Timeline If you want to get involved contact the following: APR: Final Competition FEB - APR: Advanced level training AUG: Team engagement w/ all volunteer NOV - JAN: Intermediate level training AUG - OCT: Basic level training AUG: Finalize curriculum JUL - AUG: Develop curriculum / courseware / training materials JUL: Finalize team logos / order tee shirts / stickers JUN: Team engagement with all volunteers MAY - JUN: Re-engage with schools (send brochures / visit) APR - MAY: Continue program development, identify and delegate tasks and milestones APR: Outreach to Hillsborough / Pinellas / Seminole / Pasco / Manatee / Polk / Sarasota (Private – Jesuit / Carrollwood / Steinbrenner / Land o’ Lakes APR: Recruitment of volunteers / facility to host final event APR: Finalize plan with key leaders and prep for planning team engagements MAR: Identify Volunteers If you want to get involved contact the following: Individuals contact Capt Bryan Tye: Bryan.Tye@socom.mil Company sponsorship: MA Yourchisin:MA.Yourchisin@ac4s.com JAN - FEB: The “Cyber Fortress” idea was formed!!
