BACKGROUND In 2015 MGDs expired and new framework was required In 2015 192 Heads of States met and agreed on the development framework.

SDG – a Transformational shift in development thinking and Approach Principle of social equality – “No one Left behind” Broad-based and inclusive stakeholder engagement for all people Developed through a participatory process Strong call for leaving no one behind (Goals 5 and 10) focus on gender equality and equity but mainstreamed in all 17 goals Comprehensive and interconnected – 5 P’s (People, Planet (sustainable development), Prosperity (elimination of poverty), Peace (peace required for development), Partnerships (development is complex and requires multi-stakeholder approaches – 17 goals and 169 targets) Strong global buy-in - 192 states strong review and participatory mechanisms based on evaluations. Strong focus on evaluations and utilisation of results to inform decisions on reaching the most vulnerable SDGs’ shifting on data needs - leading to a data revolution – implications for data providers are immense – collecting and providing data differently

Ensure healthy lives and promote well- being for all at all ages Goal 4. Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. GoalS. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. Goal 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
