EL PROGRESIVO Para formar el progresivo en español, se puede usar los siguiente 5 verbos en vez de ESTAR. All of these verbs suggest movement of continued, ongoing action. There are very slight differences in these verbs and their meanings.

EL PROGRESIVO Formation: 1.) Conjugation of verb (in location of Estar) 2.) Formation of gerund (-ar = ando; -er/-ir = iendo; yendo; irregulares). 3.) Pronoun placement follows the same rules as learned with Estar and the progressive tense: (no) IOP + DOP + verbo + gerundio (no) verb + gerundioIOPDOP* (accent) OJO: “Se” especial

SEGUIR SEGUIR = “to keep on –inging” Yo seguí cantando toda la noche. I kept on singing all night. Todos seguirían hablándolo. All would keep on talking about it.

CONTINUAR CONTINUAR = “to continue – inging” Continuamos haciendo la tarea. We continued doing the homework. Yo continuaré pidiendo ayuda. I will continue asking for help.

VENIR VENIR = “to come around (habitually) –inging” Ellos vinieron coleccionando dinero. They came around collecting money. Vendríamos limpiando las salas. We would come around cleaning the rooms.

ANDAR ANDAR = “to go around –inging” Ella anduvo entrenándose para la carrera. She went around training (herself) for the race. Andábamos montando las bicicletas. We used to go around riding our bikes.

IR IR = “to –ing more and more” (-er and -er) Yo voy enfermándome. I am getting more and more sick (I am getting sicker and sicker). Fuiste adelgazándote. You were getting more and more thin (You were getting thinner and thinner).
