US Ergonomics will assess your program and provide concrete, actionable recommendations for moving it forward. Who Should Use This Service?: Company Leadership, Site managers, EHS managers, Human Resources What Will I Learn?: The objective of this service is to provide a third-party assessment of a client’s ergonomic program. It involves a review of methods, policies, procedures, and key metrics using established protocols for world-class ergonomics initiatives. The evaluation is conducted to assist an organization, site or company with the development and improvement of their ergonomics process. The evaluation serves to expand management and staff awareness of an organization’s strengths and improvement opportunities and serves as a baseline by which to measure continuous improvement. When Should I Use It?: The evaluation is appropriate for organizations with existing ergonomics programs that want to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of their efforts. In addition, the evaluation is also applied to operations with no formalized ergonomics program, that want to identify opportunities for improvement and to develop a program implementation strategy. How Long Will It Take?: The timing depends on the scope of the evaluation. The ergonomics consultant will work with a client sponsor to help schedule site tours, site presentations and interviews. Prior to the visit, the sponsor will be asked to provide relevant background information. This thorough analysis of select jobs uses information gained from work requirements, injury records, productivity data, and interviews to pinpoint specific risk factors and develop comprehensive recommendations for eliminating ergonomic-related hazards. Who Should Use This Service?: Engineering, Managers and supervisors interested in understanding and reducing/eliminating ergonomic-related hazards in the industrial work environment What Will I Learn?: This service is an in-depth, human factors engineering review of ergonomic-related hazards and improvements to reduce risks and increase productivity. Workplace services ERGONOMICS JOB ANALYSES & SOLUTION DESIGN Ergonomics Job Analyses & Solution Design (Continued) Service Description (continued) Prioritized Ergonomics Exposure Assessment Data collection techniques will include the application of risk factor checklists, musculoskeletal stress surveys of employees, videotaping of job tasks, equipment and tool dimensions and process information. Risks will be prioritized for each major body part (hands/wrists, lower arms, upper arms and shoulders, neck, back, legs, and eyes) based on a numeric scale. Custom Solutions Recommendations are expected to include a combination of administrative controls (e.g., task rotation, training in proper technique), work method changes (task distribution, cycle time considerations) and engineering controls (physical changes to the workstation, tools or equipment.) Workplace services ADVANCED SERVICES SUMMARY Ergonomics Engineering Simulation, Analysis, and Review of New Line, Equipment or Facility Design Prior to investing millions of dollars in workplace design or equipment purchase, US Ergonomics can conduct simulation and objective testing of the proposed design and recommend modifications to ensure success. A variety of ergonomic analysis tools, including biomechanical models, 3-D human computer-assisted design (Human-CAD) simulation, physiologic testing (heart rate monitoring), muscle effort monitoring (measuring muscle activity levels using portable electromyography techniques, EMG), vibration monitoring of tools or equipment (using tri-axial accelerometers), and more, may be applied to assess the ergonomic appropriateness of new installations or proposed modifications to the workplace while they are still in the “drawing phase.” The results have been used very successful in “Factory of the Future” and broad implementations of workplace change. Ergonomics Exposure Monitoring & Job Design By measuring the work demands US Ergonomics can help you determine if changes to the work are necessary and, if so, how much change is required to be within acceptable limits. Job requirements may be measured on-site using a variety of ergonomics tools including (e.g., heart rate, body temperature, muscle effort) to establish safe levels of work exposure based on physiological, biomechanical and anthropometric job demands. Before investing time, money and effort make sure the workplace changes being considered are appropriate and necessary. Vibration Measurement & Abatement Programs Programs include measurement of specific tool and work demands, development of effective vibration exposure plans, employee education, tool and equipment testing, enhancement of tool maintenance programs, and specification criteria for tool and equipment selection. The program can target hand/arm vibration associated with hand tool use or whole body vibration associated with riding on vehicles or vibrating platforms. Physical Demands Analysis Quantitative measurement of the physical work demands are used to assist site EH&S and medical providers with return to work and light duty assignment programs. A focus on “can do” and ease of communication make this a valuable tool. The report includes accurate job descriptions, task identification, description of tools, equipment and environment, as well as the frequency and duration of activities such as lifting, carrying, climbing, pushing, pulling, gripping, standing, kneeling and reaching.
