VOKI Big Time Fun ! Send Quick Emails with your message Voki’s are creative ways to send short voice messages via email. They allow the sender to create an avatar which speaks the intended message. Counselors can choose to have a real person convey their message or use adorable animals or other animations. The voice can be that of the counselor or one selected from the voice collection….you can finally have that accent you always wanted! After you’ve recorded your message which could be quick pep talks like “Great job on your test…I knew you could do it!”. Or the occasional detective work “I’ve sent for you several times please show up!” you simply include the email of the person you’re sending it too and voila!!!! On a more serious note this is a wonderful way to reach our parent population who may struggle with literacy. While we cannot convey confidential information, it still is basically email; we can express a need to meet. The beauty of this tool is that it can be both fun and serious and the selection of characters runs the gamut from the very professional to the just plain funny. Still the best part is that this program is FREE!! Follow the directions on this website www.voki.com and you will be creating voice emails in no time!!!!

Blogging Blogs are cool way to engage students conversations that take place at different times depending on the availability of the participants. www.Edublogs.com Molly's Allatoona Blog Blogs Added to a group or classroom guidance or a way to get a feel of how your students feel about a particular topic. This is also a way to get parent feedback and participation as well especially after a parent meeting. Parents are more likely to read and attend to comments made by other parents. Consider setting up a blog for your department on sites like www.Wordpress.com, www.Blogger.com, and www.Edublogs.com which all offer free blogs in addition fee based blogs. You can certainly pay for your blog site and generally a paid site comes with a few more frills but the basic functions (two way communication and ability to monitor posts) can be completely accomplished with the free blog sites. Once you decide on your host you can use many of the topics that are on your counseling webpage like scholarships and college information. These can be very helpful sources of information for students especially if you begin conversations about school visits and ask students to post what impressed them most about a school. Remember to ALWAYS set your comments to APPROVE so that any post must be read by you or your designee and approved for appropriate content before it is posted! So get started!!!! Set up your counseling blog today…..Happy Blogging!!!
