Windows 2016 - Sécurité Just in time & Just enough Administration Shielded VM / Host Guardian Services Windows Defender for malware protection

RDS 2016 Windows 10 experience Reduced bandwidth, better experience at higher resolutions Personal Session Desktops (VDI on Win Server) Shared SQL / Azure SQL for RD Broker in HA DDA (Hyper-V): Full PCIe redirection inside VM (GPU) vGPU (Hyper-V): 4k, OpenGl/OpenCL, 1GB RAM

Modes de déploiement Low space requirement : <1GB Third-party applications RDS experience Full GUI Specialized workloads Low space requirement : <1GB Reduced attack surface Less maintenance downtime Follows the CBB (SA required) Perfectly suited for : IIS Hyper-V Storage Spaces Recommended for most workload Server Core Lower maintenance server environment NEW! Nano Server Just Enough OS

Hyper-V 2016 – évolutivité Up to 24 TB per physical server (6x) Capability Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 Windows Server 2016 Physical (Host) Memory Support Up to 4 TB per physical server Up to 24 TB per physical server (6x) Physical (Host) Logical Processor Support Up to 320 LPs Up to 512 LPs Virtual Machine Memory Support Up to 1 TB per VM Up to 12 TB per VM (12x) Virtual CPU Support Up to 64 vCPU per VM Up to 240 vCPU per VM (3.75x)

Hyper-V 2016 – disponibilité Mixed OS Mode cluster Provides ability for Windows Server 2012 R2 cluster nodes to operate with Windows Server 2016 nodes. Cluster OS Rolling Upgrade Upgrade your fabric to Windows Server 2016, without downtime to workloads running on Hyper-V virtual machines. VM resiliency Designed for cloud-scale environments, this helps preserve VM session state in the event of transient storage or network disruptions. Fault domain-aware clusters Enhances key operations during cluster lifecycle such as failover behavior, placement policies, heartbeating between nodes, and quorum behavior.

Storage Replica Volume-based Synchronous (<5ms) or Asynchronous Design options: Stretched Cluster (automatic failover) Server-to-server Inter-Cluster Still available : Hyper-V Replica and DFS

Storage Spaces 2012 Version : Separated Compute & Storage Requires external JBOD

Storage Spaces 2016 Version : Storage Space Direct Separated Compute & Storage Internal Disks

Storage Spaces 2016 Version – Hyper-Converged : Compute & Storage Internal Disks

Containers Isolate Application & Dependencies from OS Accelerate application deployment 2 levels of isolation (shared kernel or not)

Licensing – les éditions

Licensing – le gros changement Transitioning from processor to core Servers are now licensed based on the number of physical cores in the physical server To license a physical server, all physical cores must be covered A minimum of 16 core licenses is required for each server One Windows Server 2016 license covers 2 cores The price for 8 two-core licenses of Windows Server 2016 is the same as the two-processor license of Windows Server 2012 R2 When all cores are licensed, Standard license allows for 2 VMs. For additional VMs, all cores must be licensed again Existing customers’ servers under SA will be granted additional cores (but will need to pay extra SA for those licenses)
