Oxfam Trailwalker TOHOKU 2017

What is the Oxfam Trailwalker? It is a worldwide trail walking & running charity event in a team of 4 members. The participants shall face 3 unique challenges. Challenge your strength and endurance 50km or 100km of tough trails must be completed within the time limits of 24 hours(50km) or 48 hours(100km) Challenge your team’s bond and unity From team creation, through training together, through the highs and lows of overcoming difficulties by supporting each other, the goal is to finish the event together with all 4 team members。 Challenge to meet the fundraising goal All teams must collect the minimum fundraising amount of 120,000 yen or more. These funds will be donated for Oxfam’s activities to eliminate poverty, support disaster regions and continue to support developing countries.

Spreading across the Globe The Oxfam Trailwalker takes place in many different parts of the world。 1981: It began in Hong Kong establishing itself as a international charity team event before eventually spreading to England and Australia attracting even more participants. Up until this year, approximately 200,000 people have participated、while more than 14 billion yen has been donated. JAPAN: Oxfam Trailwalker Event ・2007: First year of the Trailwalker with around 7,000 people taking part in the years since 2007. ・Donations have risen to around 4.3 billion yen.

What is OXFAM ? OXFAM is an international organization composed of a collective of 19 sub-organizations all over the world. Currently 10,000 staff are working with more than 50,000 interns / volunteers in over 90 countries. In 1942、OXFAM was launched as an organization in Oxford, England dedicated to help Greek citizens during that period suffering from starvation. OXFAM has been active for almost 75 years ever since then to support people all over the world suffering from poverty and discrimination. OXFAM Japan was founded in 2003. We support international cooperative activities, support in Tohoku, Kumamoto, policy proposals and information distribution in Japan.

Usage of Donated Funds Tohoku Region in Focus! All of your treasured donations will be channeled through Oxfam Japan and used to support Tohoku, Kumamoto, a project to eliminate world poverty and emergency humanitarian support activities. Tohoku Region in Focus! First of all, [immerse yourself in Tohoku and get to know it] That is the first step in supporting Tohoku. Northeastern Japan support can be generated once you experience the “real Fukushima” including the beautiful scenery/ nature and through contact with the kindhearted local people.

Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Oxfam provides emergency humanitarian assistance in the event of disasters and conflicts. For example, Oxfam offers Syrian refugees both in and outside the country access to supplies such as food, water, sanitary goods and sanitary facilities including shelters and toilets. Oxfam Japan undertook a project to distribute coupons that were exchanged for hygiene equipment kits for 840 households that needed support in 2015. Long-Term Development Support Oxfam is not only giving aid but using our own power to pave the way out of poverty and to realize a world without poverty. Oxfam Japan is participating in a "Small and Medium Enterprise Support Program" to help improve technology by securing funds for small-scale farmers and others in need. Since launching the project in 2008, we implemented 23 support projects in 17 countries.

Survey Proposals (Advocacy) Oxfam conducts policy advocacy activities all over the world to change the aspects within society that produce poverty. Oxfam Japan also carries out activities such as delivering Oxfam's message to the Japanese government and providing a viewpoint from Japan to Oxfam's international network. Campaign ・ Outreach In order to change society with the aim of becoming a world without poverty, one of the most effective ways is through the "power of voice“ of the people. Oxfam works with domestic awareness and campaign activities that together with many people consider solving poverty problems and raising our voices together to realize a fair world. We also implement youth programs for human resource development. Further information on our activities can be found here: https://oxfam-mng.com/web/fundraising_e/tw2015.html
