WELCOME PARENTS! BUZZ DEMONSTRATION AND INFORMATION

Parent Buzz Demonstration After tonight you should: Know how to access RDS/Buzz Understand the key features of the observer account Understand the relationship between the RDS views and the Buzz views Realize the power that Buzz holds for all stakeholders

Parent Buzz Demonstration Go to www.cps.k12.in.us. Click on RDS Parent /Student Access

Parent Buzz Demonstration You should now be at this screen and ready to enter your username and password. After entering your username and password, you can click Login or press the Enter key on your keyboard.

Parent Buzz Demonstration You can have the system automatically reset your RDS password or unlock your account. Click on the Forgot your password? link and enter your username and answer to your secret question. A new password will be emailed to the address listed in your account.

Parent Buzz Demonstration You can update your email address or change your password via account settings. RDS Gradebook is no longer available. Grades only available through Buzz. Since the teachers are no longer entering assignments into the RDS gradebook, the courses in RDS are no longer clickable. Instead you will use Buzz to see the grade details that you used to see in the RDS gradebook.

Parent Buzz Demonstration A quick grade overview is on the schedule tab GP1-- red frame GP 2-- green frame

Parent Buzz Demonstration Observing: Shows you which student you are viewing. All of the students you can observe are listed in the drop down menu. Parent name: Your name always appears here in the corner.

Parent Buzz Demonstration Items appear in the To-do panel if the teacher sets a due date (not required). Overdue items say Past Due. Note that it’s possible that the item has been turned in but not graded yet.

Parent Buzz Demonstration The To-do panel is searchable for specific assignments or by course.

Parent Buzz Demonstration Announcements are the way that most teachers will communicate their weekly activities and due dates. They show up on the home screen until read.

Parent Buzz Demonstration After the initial reading, announcements can be accessed via clicking on the three horizontal bars and then on Communication.

Parent Buzz Demonstration

Parent Buzz Demonstration Quarterly grade--green frame

Parent Buzz Demonstration The notifications appear on the course home screen, below the upcoming/most recent section.

Parent Buzz Demonstration Click on the three horizontal bars and then Performance to start looking more deeply at grades. Click on Grades in the new screen.

Parent Buzz Demonstration Categories in ELA (red frame): Reading and Responding--Non Fiction Reading and Responding--Literature Narrative Writing Informative Writing Argumentative Writing Use of Language Passing scores show in green; scores below 70% will show in red.

Parent Buzz Demonstration Paper icons usually mean that something has been submitted in the system. It could also mean that an item has been started, but not finished. Until the student finishes it and submits it, the teacher can’t really grade it. Circular arrows mean that a student can resubmit the work for a higher grade, allowing students to learn & master objectives.

Parent Buzz Demonstration Grades: Shows the full semester’s worth of assignments unless they are hidden from student view. Activity: Shows the time spent on activities done in the Buzz LMS. Objective Mastery: Shows mastery of the standards in a course.

Parent Buzz Demonstration For Me: Allows students to self-assign activities or teacher to add for specific students What if: Predicting grade if scores were different (may be unavailable soon) Analytics: Gives info on how class did (no names; may be unavailable soon) Badges: Can be assigned by teachers for specific accomplishments, citizenship, and more
