G.R.O.W. Question How do energy drinks affect your performance when playing sports and working out?

=Does not improve performance =Improves performance

Gatorade Pros Cons Gatorade not only helps you stay hydrated Boost your energy level by providing you with carbohydrates Replenishes lost electrolytes Cons Majority of calories are from sugar -has an effect on your teeth Gatorade was more damaging to your teeth than Coca-Cola. Does not prevent hyponatremia -abnormally low amount of sodium in the blood

Gatorade Ingredients Ingredients: Water, sucrose (table sugar), dextrose, citric acid, natural flavor, sodium chloride (table salt), sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, and flavoring/coloring ingredients; some Gatorade flavor variations use brominated vegetable oil as a stabilizer.

Gatorade performance When you exercise, it's important to stay hydrated. While water is the most logical form of hydration, sports drinks like Gatorade contain sugar and electrolytes like sodium and potassium. Sports drinks can help replace what we lose during longer duration exercise, especially in the heat. Research has shown that Gatorade helps the body gain back what it loses but does not improve athletic performance. It only gives the body extra energy.

Powerade Pros Replenishes electrolytes, carbohydrates and vitamins during physical activity Include a variety of flavors and calorie contents Replaces lost nutrients during exercise Cons Not beneficial to one's health due to their high levels of sugar, sodium, artificial colors and flavors Induces weight gain

Powerade Ingredients Ingredients: Water, Glucose, Fructose, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Fruit and Vegetable Concentrates (Chokeberry, Elderberry, Sweet Purple Potato, Safflower, Radish), Acidity Regulators (Potassium Citrate, Magnesium Chloride, Calcium Chloride, Potassium Phosphate), Stabilisers (Acacia Gum, Glycerol Esters of Wood Rosins), Sweeteners (Sucralose, Acesulfame K), Flavourings, Anti-foaming Agent, Vitamin B6.

Powerade performance During, before and after exercise, Powerade is designed for optimal provision of fluid and fuel. Starting exercise properly hydrated gives you the best chance of minimising dehydration as you train, play, or race hard. It can also help keep your blood volume at optimal levels, and allows you to sweat to remove heat effectively. Athletes that are well hydrated are also likely to have better concentration and skill learning ability.

Vitamin water Cons Pros Vitamin water has more sugar than most 12 ounce cans of sodas This amount of sugar can increase the risk of diabetes, obesity and generally boost mortality rates. Has supplemented antioxidants, such as Vitamin A and E, can increase mortality rates. Pros Packed with many different vitamins and minerals and electrolytes Rehydrate you and keeps your body healthy

Vitamin water Ingredients Ingredients: Its ingredients are composed of reverse osmosis water, magnesium lactate, potassium phosphate, citric acid, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, calcium lactate, natural flavors and less than 1% of erythritol, crystalline fructose and rebiana.

Vitamin Water Performance Vitamin water can be misleading but when you start investigating the list of ingredients in Vitaminwater and similar beverages, the more you'll realize you're doing your body a great harm by falling for the healthy illusion they've created. Research has shown that this beverage is closer to soda than it is to water. So drinking a “soda” like product while you work out does not improve sports performance.

What we have learned Sports drinks brands create illusions that their drinks help your athletic performance. They have a lot of sugar and that can be bad for you. They contain a variety of vitamins and minerals. Some actually can help your performance by keeping you hydrated For some drinks one serving is not the whole bottle.
