A: The properties of different optical fibers and modules are shown in the two tables below. The use of single or dual-core fibers is determined by the optical module. Though dual-core fiber is more commonly used, the single-core fiber (with BIDI optical module) has seen an evident increase of application. Therefore, BIDI modules must be deployed in pairs, at both ends and their applications reduce the use of fibers. As for price, single-core modules are more expensive than dual-core modules; single-mode modules are more expensive than multi-mode modules; yet single-mode fibers are cheaper than multi-mode fibers.
