Summary Transport Strand World Cities World Class University Network - Symposium 2015 - London Transport Strand Sessions 11 - 14. August 2015

Introductory Session Plenary Session: Future Transport trends in global cities Key notes of attending member cities: London, Berlin, Milano, Tokio, St. Petersburg, Toronto, Mexico City, Hongkong Topics: Urban Transport Systems Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Reliability and Safety in Transport

Session Overview 1. Session: Human-centric-Solutions in Intelligent Transport Systems 2. Session: Intelligent Transportation in smart cities 3. Session: Energy efficiency and environmental issues in transport 4. Session: Reliability, quality and safety in transport 5. Session: Improving transport quality

Workshops Team discussions “Understanding a Smart City”: Will e-mobility increase or decrease traffic and does it mean means better environment? What are the new possibilities for bidirectional charging? Is ITS a general solution for large cities? Is London congestion charge a transferable model? Increasing traffic volume vs. technology improvements What will be the effects on air pollution in 2050? What are the global trends in road safety? What are the challenges of transport safety in the future? What are measures for traffic management during large events? Are car and bike sharing systems transferable and how will be their acceptance?

Results Concrete questions for further research: Concepts and barriers for bike and car sharing systems worldwide Surveying origin and reasons of car/bike sharing users Models and guidelines for re-use of large event infrastructure Concepts to reach “Vision zero” in road safety Status of road safety management in different countries Safety improvements due to automatically driving vehicles Impacts and experiences of new traffic solutions (e.g. shared space) Analysis on ITS and its implementation for traffic management.

Outlook Challenges for WC2: Starting point for: Workshop and research questions are wide basis for international cooperation within WC2 network. Starting point for: Research proposals (e.g. Horizon 2020) Exchange of experiences especially in large cities Proceedings/publications/papers Main goals: Strengthening WC2 network activity and research Fostering public image
