Hottest day around 35°C. Longer heatwaves Increase extreme events drought / flood/ wind/ snow? Water Abstraction demand: 150 to 200% of current (UK Cttee on Climate Change Risk Assessment 2017)

Climate Change Climate Change Act set UK emissions reduction 80% by 2050 (1990 base) UK has achieved 35% cut but heading off track Domestic/commercial emissions will need further year on year 3% drop So significant action needed Adds to pressure on price

Fuel Costs Generally upward price rise in all fuel types over time Some stability this year But is this about to change? Significant rises still looking likely next year

How? Audit your energy use Take regular meter readings (Smart?) Assess overnight energy use Check your tariff! Off gas? Oil club Benchmark & seek advice Remember the energy hierarchy: Switch off and save Tariff/ Insulate/ equipment efficiency Then consider alternative energy

Smart Meters Government mandated installation by energy suppliers of smart energy meters in all domestic and smaller non-domestic premises by 2020

Behaviour Change Review heating/cooling time Reduce temp when possible Stop manual override Reduce lighting load – switch off and more efficient luminaires Keep up to date with maintenance

Lighting Assess wattage and needs Any incandescent bulbs? Fluorescent good (T12/T8/T5), but LED much better 50% less energy/ 5-10 times longer (reduced maintenance) /3-7 yr pay back Use PIRs for infrequent areas Costly Flood lighting? - switch to LED

Insulation Loft insulation: £5/m2 = 1-2yrs Cavity wall insulation: £5/m2 = 2-3yrs Suspended Floor insulation: £5-£10/m2 = 5-10 years Flat roof insulation (internal/external): Expensive and often best done as part of roof refurbishment £15/m2 = 15+yrs Solid wall internal/external: £20/£45per m2 =12-20 yrs Double Glazing :Generally only cost effective when replacing old windows £250+/m2 = 20+years Tank jackets/pipes/draught proofing: always makes sense
