Homemade seed tape Seed tape can be a quick and simple way of planting small, fiddly seeds. It is quite expensive to buy but you can make your own with materials you’ll find in your kitchen. You will need: Kitchen towels Scissors Seeds Ruler Flour Water Paintbrush 1. Take a length of kitchen roll and cut it lengthwise into three equal sized strips. Fold each strip in half, press and then unfold. Place a ruler along the length of the strip to help you measure the distance between your seeds. 2. Make some flour glue by mixing 2 parts flour with 1 part water. The glue needs to be thick but runny enough to form a droplet so add more water or flour to adjust the thickness as needed. Dab drops of glue on to one half of the kitchen roll using a paintbrush, leaving a space between each one equal to the sewing distance it suggests on your seed packet. For example, I used a 30 cm distance for carrot seeds. Using your fingers or tweezers, place a seed onto each dab of glue and allow to dry. 3. Once the glue is dry, fold half of the kitchen roll back over the seeds to protect them and roll up your seed tape for storage. Don’t forget to label it with the seed type and growing instructions You could also use toilet paper or newspaper to make your seeds tape. It is very quick and easy to make, and it makes growing your own plants very simple. Why not make some seed tape to sell at your You Grow-They Grow sale.
