THE UNITED KINGDOM

The Union Jack is a combination of the flags of St George, St Andrew and St Patrick. The flag of St George is white with a red cross. The flag of St Andrew is blue with a white diagonal cross and the flag of St Patrick is white with a red diagonal cross. The flag is normally called the Union Jack because it represents a union of countries — England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales (although the current flag does not include a flag from the latter).

The head of state is queen Elizabeth II.

The Parliament Buildings, known as Stormont because of its location in the Stormont area of Belfast is the seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Northern Ireland Executive. It previously housed the old Parliament of Northern Ireland.

The largest species is the red deer, followed by roe deer and fallow deer.
