Integumentary System Diseases and Abnormal Conditions

Acne Vulgaris Acne vulgaris is an inflammation of the sebaceous glands Etiology unknown; but usually occurs at adolescence; hormonal changes of adolescence and increased sebum is probable cause

Symptoms of Acne Vulgaris Papules, pustules, and blackheads Hair follicle becomes blocked with dirt, cosmetics, excess oil, and/or bacteria

Treatment of Acne Vulgaris Frequent thorough washing of skin Avoid creams and heavy, pore-clogging makeup Antibiotics or vitamin A ointments Ultraviolet light treatments

Athlete’s Foot Contagious fungal infection, usually on feet Symptoms: skin itches, blisters, and cracks into open sores Treatment: antifungal medications and keeping area clean and dry
