DNA Submission/Registration Process Pull tail hair or collect blood FILL the card full of hair with follicles Drop blood to fill circle – let it dry! Label the card with animal ID Fill out submission form – include barcode from sample card on the form Mail 1 copy of form with DNA samples to GeneSeek Mail 1 copy of form with payment to AWA Office Please DO NOT mail samples to the AWA office

Filling Out Your Form General Guidelines: Legibility is critical, if the lab can’t read your information your results could be affected or delayed Accuracy is also critical, double check your forms for typos and mistakes, this again may affect or delay your results. Notes on/with the form to add clarity are encouraged. Let the lab and the office know if you have a special circumstance. Example: “these heifers lost their ear tags, need profile to compare…”

Sex (M/F/S) Animal Date of Birth (mm/dd/yy) Calf Name – Required for Registration only Birth Weight Calving Ease – 1 = unassisted Horned, Polled, Scurred Color – Color of coat Registration number if already registered DNA Card Barcode – Number is on the DNA card Sample ID Number – If already tested in a different order (assigned by lab) Emphasize Male-Female-Steer and also what true definition of Scurred is (a dehorned animal is not scurred)

Mailing Instructions Send Samples and a copy of the forms to GeneSeek – Please do not send samples to the AWA office, this will only cause a delay in getting your samples processing. Send a Payment and a copy of the forms to American Wagyu Association. Please remember to send a copy of the forms to the AWA office so that we can confirm with GeneSeek to be sure they have received and recorded your order correctly.
Understanding Your DNA Results Sample ID number – Where do you find this Sire/Dam individual qualifications or exclusions Trio qualifications – Why all three have to qualify together. Types of results: “Not on File” “Finished “Failed”” “NR” and “Cancelled” SCD values – AA, VA, VV what they mean Tenderness values – 1-10 what is the average for Wagyu V=Valine and A=Alanine are the amino acids. Alanine has a lower melting point than Valanine.
American Wagyu Breed Categories Eligibility of animals FULLBLOOD WAGYU 100% Fullblood sire and dam Animals registered in the AWA or those registered in Japanese Wagyu Herdbook
PUREBRED WAGYU 93.75% Wagyu blood of it’s registered Wagyu sires and dams No white above the flank or in front of navel
PERCENTAGE WAGYU Females must have at least 50% Wagyu Blood The percentage of Wagyu blood is the “average” of Wagyu blood of both sire + dam as on AWA Registration Certificate
