WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL SERVICE ? International Service encompasses actions taken by Rotarians to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.

International Service Popular programs Rotary friendship exchange (RFE) World Understanding and Peace Rotary Fellowships Rotary Action Groups Onto Convention WCS, Inter Country Committees , Sister Clubs

What does it involve ? These actions may or may not involve community service projects. Ideally it involves building up bonds of friendship which sows the seed for future community service together.

Rotary Friendship Exchange What is Friendship Exchange? An activity in which Rotarians and their families carry out reciprocal visits, living for a few days with the Rotarians of the other countries. The GOAL is “Advance International Understanding, Goodwill and Peace through person to person contacts across International Boundaries”

Rotary Friendship Exchange Two Types of Friendship Exchanges:- VISITOR program: In this individual Rotarian may be with spouse spend few days in the home of a Rotarian of the other country. TEAM program: In this number of couples (four to six), visit several communities in the host district for say 15 days. Uni –vocational (host and guest Rotarians shall be of same occupation) exchanges are also encouraged. Co ordination is done by District Friendship Exchange Committee and participating clubs in both the types.

Rotary Friendship Exchange Who Can Apply? Any Rotarian along with spouse. What is the procedure for application? The application (in a prescribed format) is through the Club President and club International Director. The district team does the coordination with District Friendship Exchanges of other Countries. Participating district develop their own standards for selection of a participant. Friendship exchange is undertaken with the consent of a club of the participant, with approval of District Governor and with an understanding that there will be no liability on the district and Rotary International.

Rotary Friendship Exchange When are the Friendship Exchanges Available? Generally, any time of the year agreeable to participating clubs and districts. Reciprocal visits may be done in that year or the next year. Who can be the host of Friendship Exchange? Any Rotarian who is willing to host shall apply through their club to District Friendship Exchange committee. What is the duration of Friendship Exchange? For Visitor program - up to 10 days(or as per mutually agreed between two participating districts) Team program it is up to 15 days(or as per mutually agreed between two participating districts).

Rotary Friendship Exchange Who bears the cost of Friendship Exchanges? In every case guests are supposed to bear the expenses. Any variations in this are mutually decided by the guest and host family. Why Friendship Exchange program is important to Rotary? This program is not a facility of giving lodging during business or vacation trip. This exchange is of Rotary couples who are motivated by a sincere desire to learn about the culture of other country and to share international fellowship. Can be an effective tool in promoting better human relations and build goodwill and peace around the world.

World Understanding 1945, 49 Rotary members served in 29 delegations to the United Nations Charter Conference. Today, Rotary maintains close relationships with many UN agencies. RI’s representatives to the UN in New York host an annual Rotary Day at the United Nations to celebrate this partnership for peace.

World Understanding Peace Camp ‘04, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Muttenz-Wartenberg, Switzerland, brought Israeli and Palestinian young people together to develop friendships and overcome tensions. A Indo-Pak initiative has been done in the past by our district Rotarians and can be done again.

Rotary’s international meetings foster the spirit of international understanding when Rotarians of many countries and cultures gather to celebrate service and fellowship.

Rotary Fellowships Rotarians/spouses/Rotaractors sharing common passion the world over join to form fellowships. Amateur radio to cricket to fighting AIDS to jazz to wine to Yachting. You can join You can start www.Rotary.org: Rotary fellowships

Rotary Action Groups Rotarian Action Groups help RCs and districts plan and carry out community development and humanitarian service projects in their area of expertise. The groups are organized by Rtns. and Rotaractors who are proficient, and have a passion for service, in a particular field. WASRAG : Water and Sanitation : PP Hemant Jagtap. RFHA :Rotary fight against HIV and AIDS

RAGS Each group functions independently of RI establishing its own rules, dues requirements, and administrative structure. Membership open to Rtns, family members as well as participants and alumni of all TRF programs. RAGs must adopt RI’s standard bylaws and operate in accordance with Rotary policy. RAGs regularly collaborate with clubs & districts on service projects in their area of specialty.  RAGs can help clubs & districts obtain funding or other assistance for their service

BENEFITS OF RAGs By joining a Rotarian Action Group, you can engage in meaningful service activities outside your own club, district, or country. By partnering with a Rotarian Action Group, your club or district gains the support of experts for planning and implementing a project.

What differentiates it from VTT? None of the International service programs are funded by TRF. A typical VTT that goes abroad is either part of a Global or District grant. A club funded VTT could be in IS.

Example RFHA RFHDs Started by RAG
