Finchley Catholic High School This year, students will continue to have lessons during the main part of the public exam period.

Finchley Catholic High School REASONS

Finchley Catholic High School Feedback from past and current students, parents and teachers has shown that: Some students find it hard to use their study time as effectively as necessary meaning that some of this time is wasted

Finchley Catholic High School Feedback from past and current students, parents and teachers has shown that: 2. Study leave can cause conflict at home between students and parents

Finchley Catholic High School Feedback from past and current students, parents and teachers has shown that: 3. There would be too big a gap between the time students last see their teachers and their exams

Finchley Catholic High School Feedback from past and current students, parents and teachers has shown that: 4. Subject teachers are in the best position to oversee the exam preparation of students

Finchley Catholic High School Feedback from past and current students, parents and teachers has shown that: 5. Students will be able to get issues that have emerged from their revision clarified as they go along if they have formal lessons for longer

Finchley Catholic High School HOW IT WILL WORK

Finchley Catholic High School The first big exam is on Monday 15th May. Students will continue having lessons when they don’t have an exam until Friday 9th June.

Finchley Catholic High School When students have a morning exam......... They will return to their lesson on completion of their public exam even if this is part way through a lesson. They will continue in normal lessons for the remainder of the day unless they have another exam scheduled.

Finchley Catholic High School When students have an afternoon exam......... Afternoon exams start at 1.30 p.m. and they will need to be lined up on the LSP at 1.15 p.m. They will leave Period 3 at 12.35 p.m. so that they can have lunch before the exam. Students will not return to lessons after their exam.

Finchley Catholic High School During these lessons: Students will continue to revise with their class teacher for the exam in that subject Once the exam in that subject is over, the class teacher will support students revising for other exams In some cases, a teacher may support students to revise for an exam later that day during their lesson

Finchley Catholic High School WHO IT WILL APPLY TO

Finchley Catholic High School Some students find it hard to use their study time as effectively as necessary meaning that some of this time is wasted. This may not apply to all students and there will greater flexibility for some students who have shown that they can learn successfully on an independent basis.

Finchley Catholic High School We will use the following criteria to determine this: Average Attitude to Learning Grades This needs to be a minimum of 3.5 Average Subject Grades Students need to be achieving at least in line with their MTGs

Finchley Catholic High School We will be making decisions over the next few weeks based on current data and will be asking eligible students to express an in interest in applying for flexible study leave. Students who are given flexible study leave : - Can continue to attend lessons as they wish to - Will need to continue to attend some lessons e.g. Maths and English
